What Is Dhurandhar: The Revenge About?

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the second instalment revolves around Hamza Ali Mazari, an Indian agent locked in a high-stakes battle against Pakistan’s ISI chief, Major Iqbal played by Arjun Rampal. The narrative traces Jaskirat Singh Rangi’s transformation into Hamza, how he navigates enemy territory with restraint and grit, and whether he ultimately succeeds in his mission as Sher-e-Baloch.

It’s the kind of spy thriller that doesn’t just entertain — it keeps you emotionally invested, flag-in-throat patriotic, and constantly guessing.

What Works Brilliantly

Aditya Dhar’s sharp writing and meticulous detailing stand out. The chapter-wise narrative structure simplifies the storytelling without disrupting the flow, keeping the audience engaged throughout despite the lengthy runtime. The emotional quotient emerges as the film’s biggest strength, with patriotism running high and several moments designed to evoke applause.

Recurring surprises and special cameos add to the excitement, making the viewing experience consistently engaging, and the CGI for the large-scale action and bombing sequences largely delivers.

What Could Have Been Better

The first half, particularly the second chapter, feels slightly sluggish. The background score here also doesn’t quite match the iconic BGM from the first instalment. That said, the sad version of “Gehra Hua” and an emotional climax track by Arijit Singh leave a genuine impact.

Minor pacing issues aside, these are small complaints in the context of an otherwise overwhelming cinematic achievement.

Four hours, a mind-bending spy narrative, Ranveer Singh at the absolute peak of his restrained, intense best, and Aditya Dhar proving he belongs among India’s finest directors. This is the rare sequel that isn’t just as good as the original — it carries the franchise to an entirely new level.
