Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar is gaining good traction at the box office. Released on December 5, 2025, the spy action drama is drawing comparisons with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which was released during the same week in 2023. While both movies are entirely different and cater to different sets of audiences, they still have a couple of similarities like runtime, censor certificate, gory action, testosterone-driven presentation and more. In fact, Dhurandhar was initially marketed as Ranveer Singh’s Animal. Since Ranveer and Ranbir are considered as strong competitors of each other, this comparison is somewhat bound to happen. Here’s looking at the day-wise box office collections of both the movies.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar opened with Rs. 24.50 crore net on its debut day, which is more than half of what Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film did on the release day, i.e. Rs. 51.50 crore net. Furthermore, the Ranveer Singh film witnessed a good trend and recorded a roughly 15 percent hike on Day 2, collecting Rs. 28.50 crore. This jump is better than Animal’s Day 1 to Day 2 spike, which was around 8 percent. Still, on the face value, Animal collected Rs. 56 crore on its second day, which is again more than double of Dhurandhar’s Day 2.
Coming to their third day box office collections, Dhurandhar recorded a phenomenal jump of around 38 percent, which is 4 times better than Animal’s jump on Day 3, roughly 9 percent. The Ranveer Singh movie collected Rs. 37 crore on Day 3, while the Ranbir Kapoor film made Rs. 61 crore. Dhurandhar ended its opening weekend at Rs. 90 crore net mark, while Animal wrapped its first weekend at a whopping Rs. 168.50 crore net at the Hindi box office.
One must note that Dhurandhar’s numbers include feedings from external sources. The organic numbers would be around 30 percent less than the projected numbers.

Dhurandar grossed USD 2.35 million approx in its fourth weekend overseas, which brings its cumulative overseas box office gross to USD 24.40 million (Rs. 220 crore) approx. Combined with Rs. 789 crore approx from India, the Ranveer Singh starrer topped the Rs. 1000 crore mark globally, with its worldwide box office take of Rs. 1009 crore approx to date. Dhurandhar is the fourth Bollywood and eighth Indian film to enter the coveted Rs. 1000 crore club.
The overseas box office run for the film has been exceptional right from the first week. The film has posted phenomenal holds week after week and is now making full use of the holiday period. The film is near the USD 25 million mark and is headed for a finish in the high-20s, near USD 30 million. That’s despite not releasing in the Middle Eastern markets, which could have added another USD 10 million to its total, possibly hitting USD 40 million.
Dhurandhar is poised to become the highest-grossing Bollywood film in three major overseas markets: the United States, Canada and Australia. In the latter two, it will also be a record for Indian cinema. In the United States, Dhurandhar crossed the USD 10 million mark this weekend, becoming only the third Bollywood film to do so, after Dangal and Pathaan. Canada and Australia saw it cross Pathaan to become the second-highest-grossing Indian film, just behind Animal. It will reach the top in the coming days.
The only one missing will be the United Kingdom, but even there, it will be reaching the top two and that itself is a grand achievement. This is a market where the Pakistani diaspora forms a significant portion of the audience for Indian films, and given the patriotic undertones in the film, it would ordinarily see limited patronage from that segment. However, being set in Pakistan and based on the Pakistani underworld has generated considerable curiosity, which appears to be drawing audiences in, nonetheless.

Dhurandhar collected Rs. 50 lakh nett approx on its 8th Tuesday. With this, the film has netted Rs. 4.50 crore in the first five days of its eighth week, breaking a 25 YEAR OLD eighth week record for Hindi films previously held by Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Notably, the film has taken the record in a week when the top-grossing film is another Sunny Deol film, Border 2.
While Gadar will hold the record in the ACTUAL collection, i.e. GROSS, the fact that the record this old has fallen even in NETT, which is the reporting standard of the Hindi film industry, is highly impressive. Dhurandhar now holds all the weekly records for Hindi films till the eighth week, except for the first week, which is held by Jawan (Pushpa 2, including dubbed films). Expecting the ninth week record is probably a stretch, not just because it will be a difficult target that would need a very strong hold, but also due to the possibility of a digital release next week. While there is no official announcement yet, an eight-week theatrical window is the industry norm, so it is very much expected. That said, this film has done many things which were a stretch; maybe it can do that again.
The total box office collections for the Ranveer Singh starrer stand at Rs. 784 crore nett approx. It will be around Rs. 785 crore at the end of this week. Digital release will mean a fall in business, so it is likely going to close somewhere between Rs. 785-790 crore, just shy of the Rs. 800 crore benchmark. Earlier, the film became the first Bollywood film to nett Rs. 700 crore in India.
In terms of footfalls, Dhurandhar has crossed 3.50 crore admissions, becoming the first Bollywood film to achieve this since Dangal (Jawan did it across all versions). At one time, toppling Dangal seemed like a possibility, but it wasn’t to be. Having said that, it is worth noting that the box office has gone down from the better days of the 2010s. Although the fall seems less for bigger films, as they tend to have longer runs nowadays due to less competition, it is there. Besides, there are places which are simply not collecting the way they used to. In that context, the footfalls, even though they will be short of Dangal, are probably of the same level, perhaps even better.

Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar has scripted history at the Indian box office, becoming the first Bollywood film to cross the ₹1000 crore mark domestically. Nearly two months after its release, the film continues its remarkable theatrical run, cementing its place among the highest-grossing films ever released in India.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar rewrote box-office records in its initial six weeks, registering consistently strong daily collections. Now in its eighth week, the spy thriller has reached a new milestone, becoming only the fourth film overall—and the only Hindi film—to achieve ₹1000 crore gross in the Indian market. The other films in this elite club are all from southern film industries.
Dhurandhar crosses ₹1000 crore mark in India
During its eighth weekend, Dhurandhar collected ₹2.9 crore net in India, followed by an additional ₹1.25 crore on Republic Day. Its earnings on January 26, the film’s 53rd day in theatres, pushed its domestic gross past the historic ₹1000 crore milestone.
As of now, the film has earned ₹1002 crore gross (₹835 crore net) in India. The previous domestic record for a Hindi film was held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which collected ₹760 crore gross.

With this achievement, Dhurandhar joins a highly exclusive list of films that have crossed ₹1000 crore at the Indian box office:
Pushpa 2: The Rule – ₹1471 crore
Baahubali 2: The Conclusion – ₹1417 crore

KGF Chapter 2 – ₹1001 crore
Topping the list is Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which surpassed the long-standing record held by SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2. Yash-starrer KGF Chapter 2 remains the highest-grossing Kannada film of all time.
Global performance and film details
Dhurandhar has also performed strongly in international markets, earning over $33 million overseas, despite a ban in parts of the Middle East. The film’s worldwide gross currently stands at nearly ₹1300 crore as of January 28.
The film stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role, alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun. A sequel, Dhurandhar 2, is slated for release in March, bringing the spy saga to its conclusion.
With its sustained box-office momentum and record-breaking run, Dhurandhar has firmly established itself as a landmark film in Hindi cinema history.
