Destiny 2 Update 9.5.0.1 Fixes Campaign Bugs, Renegades Abilities & More

Bungie dropped Destiny 2’s second hotfix for the Renegades expansion on December 9, 2025, and it’s packed with critical fixes. Update 9.5.0.1 addresses campaign soft locks, broken exotic armor interactions, Lawless Frontier exploits, and introduces the highly requested Vanguard Alerts system. Here’s everything Guardians need to know about this massive stability patch.

Destiny 2 Update 9.5.0.1 Quick Overview

Campaign Mission Fixes You’ve Been Waiting For

The Welcome to the Frontier mission caused major frustration for players who couldn’t launch it or got trapped in encounters. Bungie resolved the launch blocker and fixed the soft lock where progressing too quickly through the Piker Crew encounter would freeze progression entirely.

The Imperium mission also received attention—destroying jammers too fast in the trash compactor sequence no longer traps players. Additionally, the game-crashing issue during The Final Shape’s Iconoclasm mission finale has been eliminated, meaning players can finally complete this legacy content without fear.

Vanguard Alerts: The Weekly Rotation System Returns

The biggest quality-of-life addition is Vanguard Alerts, accessible through the Seasonal Hub. This new system recreates the classic weekly Nightfall experience by consolidating rotating challenges across multiple activity types including Crucible, Grandmaster missions, Fireteam Ops, Arena, and raids.

Here’s how the reward structure works: completing the first challenge stage drops a special pre-Masterworked weapon with unique origin traits plus one gear piece. Stages two and three award two additional gear pieces each, totaling four extra engrams. All rewards drop at higher power levels than standard activities, making these alerts essential for endgame progression.

The Grandmaster Alert node sits conveniently at the top of the Fireteam Ops section next to Quickplay. According to Bungie’s official patch notes, all alerts remain accessible from their standard Portal nodes as well, giving players flexibility in how they access content.

Lawless Frontier & Invasion Mechanic Overhaul

Bungie made substantial adjustments to the Renegades expansion’s signature activity. Invaders now face increased damage from Stasis Freeze and Strand Suspend effects, while player-controlled Behemoths received temporary damage resistance during invasions (with non-invader Behemoths getting this buff in future updates).

The Scanner ability underwent significant rebalancing—it now only pings invaders every other pulse instead of constantly, and higher-level scans correctly waypoint ambient chests. Tiers 5 and 6 scans now accurately display four charges instead of the incorrectly stated three.

Critical exploit fixes include preventing players from duplicating dunk objects and ensuring invader teleport points consistently grab players as intended. For comprehensive strategies on mastering Lawless Frontier activities, check our dedicated guides.

Exotic Armor & Weapon Corrections

Two game-breaking exotic armor bugs got squashed. Lion Rampant Titans could previously fly infinitely—they’ve been grounded appropriately. Pyrogale Gauntlets allowed Solar Titans to spam Hammer of Sol throws at absurd rates, which has been corrected to intended functionality.

Weapon fixes include resolving Heavy ammo brick pickup issues and correcting Barrow-Dyad’s seeker generation when reloading with Marksman’s Dodge. The Desert Perpetual raid vendor was mistakenly checking kinetic slot inventory instead of energy slots when selling the epic version of Cusp Sempiternal—this has been fixed alongside the issue preventing players from purchasing higher-tier versions.

General Fixes & Quality-of-Life Improvements

Platform-specific crashes plagued Xbox players with Traditional Chinese language settings—resolved. Eververse store pricing errors on legacy emotes, Ice Breaker’s Without Ceremony ornament visual glitches, and Xûr’s Strange Coin purchase contribution bugs all received attention.

Zavala’s Vanguard Arsenal weapons no longer reset at unexpected times, and the Skimmed Surface Sparrow can now be properly claimed. Players who already completed the NE Plus Ultra Triumph can pull the Sparrow directly from Collections.

The Liminality Fireteam Op received scoring adjustments making the 10,000 in-activity score threshold more achievable, and the activity has been re-enabled following temporary disabling. For more Destiny 2 endgame content tips, explore our comprehensive activity breakdowns.

What This Means for Your Playtime

Update 9.5.0.1 represents Bungie listening to community feedback during Renegades’ launch week. The campaign fixes alone remove significant barriers preventing players from experiencing the expansion’s Star Wars-inspired story, while Vanguard Alerts provide the structured weekly gameplay loop veterans have requested.

The Lawless Frontier adjustments address legitimate balance concerns without gutting the activity’s challenge. Invaders remain threatening but not overwhelming, and exploit fixes ensure competitive integrity for players engaging with invasion mechanics seriously.

With the Equilibrium dungeon launching December 13 and The Dawning event arriving December 16, these stability improvements arrive at the perfect time to ensure smooth sailing through upcoming content drops. Bungie’s commitment to weekly hotfixes demonstrates their dedication to polishing Renegades into the redemption arc Destiny 2 desperately needs after The Edge of Fate’s lukewarm reception.
