Q Season 1 left you completely hooked on Carl Morck and his gloriously dysfunctional basement squad, here’s some very good news — Season 2 is now officially in production, and Netflix has just dropped a massive cast announcement that should have every crime thriller fan buzzing. What’s Dept. Q Season 2 About?
Netflix has officially revealed the central thrust of the new season — and it sounds gripping. This time around, Carl Morck and his team of cold-case misfits are digging into a deeply hidden crime at the very top of Scottish high society. The powerful, the privileged, and those who believe the law simply doesn’t apply to them are squarely in Department Q’s crosshairs. As Executive Producer Rob Bullock described it, it’s very much a story for our times — wealth, power, and the arrogance that comes with both. Based on the bestselling Scandinavian crime fiction novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen, the series continues to blend darkly comic procedural drama with genuinely complex, deeply personal character work.

The sheer weight of this ensemble — spanning BAFTA winners, HBO veterans, and acclaimed indie film talent — signals that Netflix is doubling down on Dept. Q in a very serious way.
Why This Season Feels Like a Big Deal
Season 1 spent six weeks in Netflix’s Global Top Ten after its May 2025 premiere, earning an almost immediate renewal. Scott Frank, the mastermind behind The Queen’s Gambit, is back in the director’s chair, which alone is reason enough to be excited. The show’s unique blend of dry wit, psychological depth, and propulsive mystery is rare on streaming — and Season 2 sounds like it leans even harder into all of that.
