Delnaaz Irani Opens Up on Messy Divorce from Rajeev Paul: No Alimony, Taken for Granted, But She Chose Peace

Veteran Indian television actress Delnaaz Irani has broken her silence on one of the most difficult chapters of her life — her separation from fellow actor Rajeev Paul — and she has done it with a raw honesty that is both heartbreaking and deeply inspiring. Speaking on The Male Feminist, she opened up about a divorce that left her emotionally shattered but ultimately showed the world what choosing yourself really looks like.

Delnaaz Irani: Key Facts

“He Kept Taking Me for Granted”

Delnaaz Irani didn’t mince words when describing what went wrong in her 12-year marriage. She shared that despite multiple serious conversations between the couple, the core problem — being taken for granted — was never truly acknowledged by Rajeev Paul until it was far too late. In her words, he likely did not realise just how serious the situation had become until the decision to separate had already been made.

What makes this confession particularly poignant is the cultural weight she carried into the marriage. Growing up in a middle-class Parsi community — where long, committed marriages are the norm and divorce is virtually unheard of — the very concept of separation was deeply alien to her. Her parents and grandparents had all stayed together for decades, and walking away from her own marriage meant confronting not just a broken relationship, but an entire value system she had grown up within.

“I Never Got Anything. I Chose My Peace.”

Perhaps the most striking revelation was financial. Delnaaz confirmed she received no alimony from the divorce — walking away completely empty-handed from a marriage that lasted over a decade. The divorce itself was messy, she admitted, largely because one partner wanted the separation while the other did not — a situation that adds layers of pain and complexity to an already devastating process.

But what Delnaaz chose instead of a financial fight was something far more valuable to her: her peace of mind. She described picking up the broken pieces and rebuilding her life with quiet determination — a decision that speaks volumes about her character and inner strength.

A Story of Survival and Self-Respect

Delnaaz Irani’s candid account is a reminder that behind the glamour of celebrity life, real and painful human experiences exist — and that walking away from a toxic or one-sided relationship, even with nothing material to show for it, can still be the bravest and most self-loving choice a person makes. The 53-year-old actress is now in a relationship with DJ Percy Karkaria and has clearly rebuilt a life she can call her own.
