Lokesh Kanagaraj trades his director’s chair for the screen this August, and if the leaked synopsis is anything to go by, he isn’t easing into acting — he’s diving straight into blood and heartbreak.
What’s DC actually about?
According to a report by Movies Singapore, DC follows Devadas, a gangster on the run, who crosses paths with Chandra, a woman fleeing trouble of her own. He takes it upon himself to protect her, and love blooms in the middle of chaos, loyalty tests, and violence. It’s essentially a modern, gritty reimagining of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s timeless novel Devadas — minus the tragic passivity, plus bullets.

Why this matters for Lokesh’s career
This isn’t just a cameo experiment — it’s a full-blown lead debut for the director who built the Lokesh Cinematic Universe. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, known for his raw, unflinching style, DC pairs Lokesh’s screen presence with Anirudh’s music and a script co-written with Franklin Jacob. Sanjana AK rounds out the cast as Parvathi.
Once DC wraps its run, Lokesh moves straight to AA23, his next directorial with Allu Arjun — a project rumored to lean more toward stylish mass action than romance, echoing the tone of his earlier hits.
