World No. 2 Alexander Zverev led Germany to a commanding 3-0 win over Croatia in Bologna, sending his country into the Davis Cup 2026 Final 8 for the second consecutive year.

Zverev, fresh off strong showings at the US Open and French Open this season, beat Croatia’s Dino Prizmic 6-4, 7-6(3) in the decisive singles rubber, while Daniel Altmaier and Germany’s doubles pairing sealed the tie in Germany’s favour.

Zverev on Playing for the Team

Speaking after the win, Zverev emphasised what sets Davis Cup apart from the regular tour: “I think I can help the team. It’s something completely different. When you play for Germany, you’re not playing only for yourself. There is a team behind you, there are teammates and many people who want us to win.”

Germany joins Britain and Spain among the nations confirmed for the Davis Cup Final 8, setting up a knockout stage that will feature increasingly stiff competition as the world’s best national teams battle for the title. With Zverev in career-best form, Germany will head into the finals as one of the sides to watch.

Zverev’s Davis Cup form continues a strong second half of the season for the German star, who has quietly rebuilt momentum after a mixed start to the year. His willingness to prioritise the national team fixture over a rest week, despite a packed tour calendar, has been widely praised by German tennis officials as a sign of his renewed commitment to team competitions.

Germany’s route to the title will not get any easier from here, with the Final 8 draw expected to pit them against nations boasting equally strong singles depth and doubles pairings. Still, having Zverev, currently ranked world No. 2 and playing some of the best tennis of his career, gives the German camp a genuine puncher’s chance at lifting the trophy for the first time in years.

Britain and Spain have also already secured their spots in the Final 8, rounding out a field that looks set to produce one of the most competitive Davis Cup finals in recent memory.
