David Silva has signed a one-year contract extension with Real Sociedad until 2024. The midfielder returned to Spain from Manchester City in 2020, and will now take his tenure at Sociedad to four years with his new deal.
This season, he has played 26 La Liga games, scoring once and providing five assists. He has made the starting line-up 70% of the time, and has put in some remarkable performances in spite of being 37 years old.
David Silva signs new contract with Real Sociedad
“I feel very comfortable here, both my family and I, and the team is doing very well, so these are all positive things,” David Silva said upon renewing his contract.
“I have to be honest with myself, I feel very well physically and I want to continue.
“The group is good, with healthy and young people, eager to learn. I am the oldest, the one who always makes demands on others, because I went through that period where I was young and I didn’t know anything. I was a bit lost, and it’s important when there are people with more experience who help you.”
The iconic midfielder earned 125 caps over the course of his international career with Spain, scoring 35 goals and winning the 2010 World Cup as well as the Euros in 2008 and 2012. And much like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos at Real Madrid, one of the best midfielders of the generation gone by still has a year to give to the sport.
