Crystal Palace have secured one of their most important pieces of summer business. Daichi Kamada has agreed to sign a new deal at Crystal Palace, with the agreement running until June 2027 — one more season at Selhurst Park. The Japan international will be staying at Selhurst Park for the 2026/27 campaign and is set to work under new manager Pierre Sage.

The deal ends weeks of uncertainty over the 29-year-old’s future and delivers Palace one of the cleaner squad answers they needed heading into a Premier League and European campaign.

The Deal That Kept Kamada in South London

Palace had already confirmed, in their retained and released list, that the Japan international had been offered fresh terms. His existing agreement ran to the end of June after he joined the club in 2024 on a two-year deal.

Palace’s retained list confirmed he had been offered fresh terms, while interest from elsewhere kept the situation open. Serie A interest in Kamada added pressure to Palace’s contract talks, with AC Milan and Fiorentina credited with enquiries.

Despite those options, Kamada chose to remain. It comes after Kamada — who is feeling fatigued — pledged his allegiance to the UEFA Conference League winners following Japan’s exit from the World Cup. The man born in Ehime was quoted as saying: “I want to stay in the Premier League. I want to stay at Palace. When you consider that I can play in the Premier League, play in a European league, play in London, and have my family in a familiar environment, there aren’t many clubs better than Palace.”

Steve Parish’s Reaction

After the contract extension was announced, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “This is fantastic news for Crystal Palace. Over the last two years Daichi has made a great impact in the centre of midfield, as well as becoming a fans’ favourite on and off the pitch. I am delighted that he has turned down the many options he had to extend his stay in south London.”

Kamada’s Own Message

Crystal Palace confirmed Kamada said: “Thanks for everything. We will get another trophy. I will give my all, I promise you. See you soon.”

The Fear That Almost Came True

There were concerns within the Crystal Palace fanbase that Kamada could follow Oliver Glasner to Nottingham Forest — having already played under the Austrian at Eintracht Frankfurt and in SE25. However, the 29-year-old has now committed himself to the Eagles.

With Glasner gone, there were fears that Kamada would be tempted to depart the club this summer on a free transfer, but those worries appear to have been allayed. Reports earlier this month suggested that Kamada was keen on remaining at Selhurst Park beyond his original deal, despite Glasner’s departure.

Kamada and Glasner had been a match made in heaven as far as a player and manager can go. At Frankfurt, they won the Europa League together, and then at Crystal Palace, the pair were part of history, winning the FA Cup — a first-ever trophy for the Eagles — the Community Shield and a first-ever European trophy in the form of the Conference League.

What Kamada Brings to Palace Under Sage

Palace are preparing for European football under a new manager, so experience and tactical flexibility carry extra value. Kamada offers both. He can play between the lines, help connect midfield to attack and bring European experience to a squad facing a heavier schedule.

Kamada’s partnership with Adam Wharton was key for Glasner during the 2025-26 campaign. Sage will now look to keep hold of Palace’s midfield stability as the French manager gears up for a busy summer with his new club.

The injury problems for Cheick Doucouré continued to cause issues last season, and with the unknown nature of his current fitness and potential return, securing Kamada’s future will be a huge step for the club.

A World Cup That Raised His Value

Kamada emerged as one of the breakout stars of the 2026 World Cup, attracting significant attention thanks to his commanding performances on football’s biggest stage. Crystal Palace has secured the future of their Japanese midfielder, retaining a player who has notably raised his game under the brightest lights.

Kamada carried his club form into the World Cup, and despite Japan’s Round-of-32 exit, he had a stellar tournament. He started every single game for Hajime Moriyasu’s side, and even scored twice in their first two group stage games. In the defeat to Brazil, he recorded a 100% pass accuracy.

Kamada has developed into one of the side’s most important players, a stark development considering his struggle to settle when he first signed in the Summer of 2024.

Midfield Concerns Remain

Kamada is not the only midfielder being linked with a move away from Crystal Palace. Adam Wharton is believed to be a key target for Chelsea and their new manager Xabi Alonso.

Keeping Kamada would avoid another midfield gap at a key point in the summer. With that threat still looming, retaining Kamada is only one part of the midfield puzzle Sage must solve.

When Will Kamada Return for Pre-Season?

Daichi will have a well-earned break after his excellent World Cup and join Palace later in pre-season as they enter a busy Premier League and European season. The additional rest is understandable given the workload he carried across an entire domestic campaign and a full World Cup tournament for Japan.
