Micron’s SSD brand Crucial has just launched a cheaper SSD solution for enthusiasts and gamers all across the globe. The extremely fast PCIe Gen4 was reserved to be expensive until now, with the P5 and P2 NVMe SSDs things seem to be changed.
These PCIe Gen4 SSDs deliver up to 3400 MB/s and 3000 MB/s of read/write performance respectively. These speeds are not the fastest that the PCIe Gen 4 SSDs can deliver but both the Crucial P2 and Crucial P5 deliver higher throughput than the Microsoft Xbox Series X’s SSD storage solution.
The best part is the price, Crucial has made this high level of performance available to a wider range of PC gamers. The entry-level Crucial P2 2280 SSD has just 250 GB of storage space but delivers better performance than Xbox Series X’s SSD for just US$55.
Although Crucial has yet to set the pricing for higher performance P5 SSD models but we expect pricing to be reasonable, considering the P2’s reasonable cost price. On the other hand, no one can deny the fact that the PS5 and Xbox Series X’s SSD storage solutions are truly fast, nearly 100x faster than the traditional 5400 RPM hard drives with the integrated compression algorithms.
But these cheaper and faster SSDs might give you the option to boost up the performance of your CPU and GPU provided they can support this new tech. Currently only AMD CPUs and GPUs are the ones who can take this benefit.
The Crucial P2 and P5 SSDs appear to be one of the first SSDs to be so much more affordable, and we expect more of the new Gen4 SSDs to be launching in the market soon.
Also this announcement follows AMD’s cheaper B550 motherboard announcement which can utilize these new SSDs which is significant for all the gamers and enthusiasts as in the coming months not only can they upgrade their motherboards but also grab cheaper PCIe Gen4 SSDs to fasten their systems.
