Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller review: The best wireless gamepad for Rs 1,699

Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller gamepad

I have been using a lot of different types of controllers these years. I am an avid gamer and like to relax by playing games after a hard day’s work. But if you don’t have a good controller, it becomes another headache as you won’t be able to play the games as efficiently as you like.

My controllers range from Redgear, Power A and now currently Microsoft Xbox wireless controller. I have also reviewed the Zebronics Zeb Max Play Wireless Gamepad. One of the major issues I face with the controllers is their longevity, as often some of the buttons start malfunctioning after a few months only. I’m also facing some minor problems with my Xbox controller as well (don’t know if it was just in my case or a widespread problem for all the Xbox users).

So, I decided to try some other controller. I have bought the Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller, which has been recently released and has got some good reviews as well, so I wanted to try it out. It is available for only around Rs 1,699 on Amazon and its official website.

In my personal opinion, I like the Xbox gamepad layout more than the PlayStation gamepad layout, so the Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller fits right into my preference. I have used it for a week now and feel that it is one of the best wireless controllers in this price range. Let’s take a look at the detailed review of the Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller.

Specifications of Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller

  • Ergonomic Design and Rubberised Textured Sticks for enhanced Grip
  • Pressure Sensitive Analog Triggers and LED Backlit Buttons. Supports Xinput and D Input
  • Vibration Feature and Zero Lag connection using a dongle
  • 8-10 meters wireless range for Ares Wireless.
  • 700mAh Battery for 12hrs of continuous gaming

In the box

  • 1 unit Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller
  • 1 Unit User Manual
  • 1 Unit USB dongle
  • 1 Unit USB TYPE C Charging Cable

Design and build quality

The Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller has an Xbox-type layout. It has LED backlit buttons which look really cool. It also has a V-shaped light strip in the middle with the Back and Start buttons at its two ends.

The L sticks are also well built and have perfect calibration. It also has a distinct D-pad along with Auto and Turbo buttons. The A/B/X/Y and Cosmic Byte button which is used to turn on/off the controller have a unique LED backlit system. It can be seen only at specific angles. This has a great effect, especially when you’re playing in a dark room.

The Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller has an ergonomic design to help you hold it properly and also has rubberised textured sticks for enhanced grip even if your hands sweat.

The pressure-sensitive Analog Triggers are well built and doesn’t feel like it will loosen very soon. It also has a vibration feature and supports X input as well as D Input. Quality and design-wise, it’s the best you can get at this price range.

Connectivity

The Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller can be connected to your PC or laptop using the USB dongle provided with the controller. For connecting with your phone you’ll need a OTG cable to connect it.

You can just plug the USB dongle and then press the CB button present in the middle of the controller. It will get instantly connected to your PC. The Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller has a Zero Lag connection using the dongle. The range of the bluetooth connection is 8-10 meters and I was easily able to play it from a distance by sitting on the sofa.

The Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller has a 700mAh Battery for 12hrs of continuous gaming. However, for me it went about 7-8 hours, which is also quite good considering the other wireless controllers available in the market in this price range.

However, one thing which I hoped was present in this controller is the wired mode connection. The USB Type C cable can only be used for charging the controller. If Cosmic Byte provided the option to play using the wired mode, it would have been better for me. I often forget to charge my devices and there is also no way to check the remianing battery left in the controller. This makes it a bit difficult for me to manage the charge of the controller. However, the charging time isn’t that bad. It takes roughly about 2 hours to charge from almost nil to full.

Buttons

The Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller has an Xbox type layout for its buttons. The A/B/X/Y buttons are well built and has good response time. They have a unique LED backlit system. It can be seen only at specific angles. This has a great effect, especially when you’re playing in a dark room.

The L sticks have good calibration. It also has a distinc D pad along with Back, Start, Auto and Turbo buttons. It also has a reset button at the back which can be pressed using a pin.

The Analog triggers are smooth to give you constact acceleration. It also doesn’t seem to loosen up soon which is the case for most of the wireless controllers in this price range. The buttons, sticks and triggers are great in the Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller. You can’t expect more than this in this price range.

Gaming experience

Latency is one of the most important factors of a wireless gamepad. In the case of a wired gamepad, latency is minimum but there are high chances of latency problems in a wireless gamepad. The latency must be very low in order to offer a good gaming experience.

I usually play FIFA 22 on my PC, and I have been playing FUT rivals and championship matches with the Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller. I haven’t felt any delay or latency problems while playing online matches. The buttons are also super responsive. I also played Need For Speed: Heat with this controller. There is no latency issue and the analog sticks L1 and L2 are quite precise to control your car efficiently and the analog triggers provide good option to accelerate and brake your car as per your need.

The Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller has a Zero Lag connection using the dongle. The range of the bluetooth connection is 8-10 meters and I was easily able to play it from a distance by sitting on the sofa.

Verdict

Cosmic Byte is one of the best gaming brands who offer quality productys at low prices. Their products aren’t much expensive but they don’t really compromise on the quality as well. The Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller is the best wireless controller available on the market right now for just Rs 1,699. So, if you’re looking for a quality wireless controller but don’t want to spend big on it, then the Cosmic Byte ARES Wireless Controller is the perfect one for you.
