EA’s Codemasters has announced two major updates that offer both excitement and disappointment for racing game fans. The fans of the F1 series, as well, saw for the first time the F1 25 gameplay. On the other hand, rallying fans discovered that the development of upcoming DiRT and WRC games is going to be paused.

F1 25 Gameplay Revealed by Codemasters, But Future Rally Game Development Is Paused
The newly released F1 25 trailer highlights key gameplay upgrades, including the introduction of reversed circuits and stunningly detailed tracks enhanced with LIDAR scanning. The technology has helped developers to reproduce circuits in finer detail than they have ever been capable of before, right down to the most subtle variations in camber and surface texture. Codemasters has ground-up rebuilt four of the five stages in the game in an attempt to convey a completely realistic rallying experience.
Creative director Gavin Cooper explained that the reversed circuits have undergone significant reengineering, including adjustments to DRS zones, sector boundaries, AI behavior, pit lane locations, and more. These changes are designed to provide a fresh and challenging experience while maintaining authenticity and fun. F1 25 has been formally confirmed for release on May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Rally game enthusiasts, on the other hand, got some bad news.
Codemasters has confirmed that the 2024 Season Expansion, which includes the recent Hard Chargers content pack, will be the last major update for EA Sports WRC 2023. Work on future rally titles has been halted indefinitely. In a blog post, the studio looked back at its off-road racing heritage, which stretches back multiple generations to titles such as Colin McRae Rally and DiRT, and thanked its fanbase for its support. Although no new rally games are planned for now, EA Sports WRC will remain available for current and future players. With development shifting, F1 25 now stands as the studio’s main focus for the near future.
