CMF Phone 1 Reportedly Explodes in India, Killing One and Injuring Another

The CMF Phone 1 was apparently bought slightly over a month ago, according to the report. The detonated device was in the user’s pocket at the time, as the explosion occurred while the owner rode a bike, indicating that the device was most likely pocketed when it detonated. As a result of detonating in the vicinity of the rider, the rider lost control ultimately resulting in their death, and the second person being severely injured. The explosion took place on the Kolhapur-Sangli route.

The phone’s battery was reportedly the cause of the explosion, though other details of what happened are unclear. More details are anticipated as the investigations proceed. The company behind it, Nothing (the same company that released the CMF Phone 1), has not yet issued an official statement or provided any details about the investigation. It is not clear if the explosion was caused by battery overheating or something else.

Even more concerning given that CMF Phone 1 has only just launched in July, so in this case, the phone was a little less than a month old. It is marketed as “Made in India,” with 100,000 units sold within three hours of its launch. Mobile users have always been warned to be careful if their device becomes too hot or the back panel starts to bulge as it could be a sign of a battery problem. This horrific event raises serious concerns about the safety standards and quality of newer smartphones available today.
