Chromium-Edge makes its way to Microsoft consoles

According to the latest information, Microsoft is bringing some major changes to its Xbox consoles. The changes are referred to in respect to the console’s browser. According to sources, Microsoft has started testing its new chromium-based Edge browser for its Xbox consoles.

Reports indicate that the company’s Xbox testers in the Alpha Skip-Ahead group can now access the new Microsoft Edge on Xbox One or Xbox Series S / X consoles. Users have stated that a full mouse and keyboard support is still missing, but the browser works with an Xbox controller, and of course, it is a little buggy.

The inclusion of the chromium-powered browser is a great thing for users who wants to access websites through their consoles. To top it all, we can also expect the new edge browser to offer Stadia compatibility with its Chromium base.

Playing browser-based games was always a hassle on the Xbox’s browser, but the latest edge browser improves the compatibility with browser-based games. Also, compatibility with services like Skype or Discord through the web is improved.

This early test version comes with support for extensions, vertical tabs, Collections, and most Edge desktop features. Support for the existing version of Microsoft Edge on Windows desktops ends today, and the updated browser will arrive on all Xbox consoles soon.

Microsoft has already ended support for the existing legacy version of Microsoft Edge on Windows desktops.
