Chromebooks: Samsung and AMD might soon join hands to end Intel and Qualcomm’s dominance

The Chromebooks market appears to be dominated by Intel and Qualcomm, whose chipsets power the majority of the models offered by various brands. However, it appears that Samsung and AMD are collaborating in order to compete more effectively.

The information was shared on Twitter by well-known tipper @OreXda. According to the leak, the chipmaker has agreed to use the South Korean tech giant’s semiconductor foundry. AMD will gain access to Samsung’s advanced 4nm process technology as a result of this agreement.

Chromebooks are currently dominated by notebooks powered by Intel and Qualcomm CPUs.

As a result, the shift to 4nm chips may aid in making upcoming AMD-powered Chromebooks more competitive in the market. Unfortunately, the leak does not reveal any additional information about AMD’s yet-to-be-announced chipset. TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, is currently inundated with orders for its 4nm process from various tech titans. This news comes as Samsung works to increase its 4nm production capacity.

Both companies are already hard at work on the upcoming Ryzen Z1 series of chipsets, which will power upcoming handheld gaming consoles such as the ASUS ROG Ally. It would not be surprising if AMD turns to Samsung’s Foundry for its next-generation processors aimed at Chromebooks. AMD may soon collaborate with Samsung for its newer Chromebook models, as the company already has its own Chromebook lineup.
