Christian Eriksen completed a remarkable comeback story at the European Championship finals, scoring in Denmark’s opening game against Slovenia as they played out a 1-1 draw.
The midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest in the 2021 edition of the tournament, which ruled him out of football for the next six months. He had his contract with Inter Milan terminated, since Serie A laws didn’t allow players with a defibrillator to play professionally. And shortly after, he joined his former club, Ajax’s reserves to train and keep himself fit.

In January 2022, he signed a contract with Brentford to return to the Premier League, and had an impressive loan spell with the Bees. And in the March international break, he scored within two minutes on his return to the national team, a year after the incident.
The former Tottenham midfielder went on to sign for Manchester United that summer, and he has since won the FA Cup and EFL Cup with the Red Devils.
The Dane’s work ethic has helped him write one of the best comeback stories in football, as he continues to perform at the highest level in spite of a major setback in his career.
