Choi Min Sik — the man who once terrified audiences in Oldboy — is now showing up to work in a suit, arm sleeves, and a genuinely nervous smile. His new film “The Intern” just dropped its first stills, and honestly? They’re kind of adorable.

What’s The Film About?

“The Intern” is a Korean remake of the beloved Hollywood movie of the same name. It follows Gi Ho (Choi Min Sik), a 37-year-experienced retiree who becomes the most junior intern at Wootutu, a scrappy fashion startup led by Sun Woo, played by Han So Hee. The story explores how a generational and workplace-rank gap slowly turns into mutual respect — and maybe even friendship.

Han So Hee has already called her onscreen mentee “warm, kind, and even cute,” while director Kim Do Young praised Choi Min Sik’s range, calling him “a fully realized genius” at interpreting character.

Why This Role Matters

Choi Min Sik has built a career on intensity — his performances in dark, heavy dramas are legendary. “The Intern” is a deliberate pivot: a softer, funnier, more relatable character who’s figuring out office Slack messages instead of solving crimes. It’s the kind of role that could open him up to an entirely new audience.

The Bottom Line

“The Intern” hits Korean theaters on September 16, and if the early stills are any indication, this could be one of the most heartwarming releases of the year. Choi Min Sik playing “cute” is not something anyone expected — but here we are.
