Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich sent shockwaves through the footballing world by officially announcing his decision to sell the club. During his 19-year spell in charge of the Blues, he has been able to turn them into one of the biggest clubs in the world.
And with their recent Club World Cup victory, Chelsea have won every trophy available to them in the Abramovich era. The Russian oligarch has said that the proceeds from the sale will go towards benefiting the victims of the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Chelsea to get new owners soon
Hansjorg Wyss has been one of the top names rumoured to be the next owner of the club. From Britain, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was also linked with the acquisition of Chelsea, but he has distanced himself from those rumours and has effectively ruled himself out of the race.
According to reports, Roman Abramovich has set a tight deadline for the sale of the club, with March 15 being the final date. He has asked for a £2 billion fee to step down as the owner of the club, and has also said that he will not have to be paid the £2 billion debt that Chelsea owe him.
Connor McGregor has teased his fanbase about potentially purchasing Chelsea, but the legitimacy of that claim is questionable. In a big blow for the fans of the club, sporting director Marina Granovskaia, who has been working closely with Abramovich for a long time, could be on her way out of the club as a result of the sale too.
