The contract situations of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger with Chelsea have not been promising recently. Both players will be able to walk out for free when their contracts expire in June 2022. As of late, Chelsea are also not willing to meet their financial demands just yet.

The director of the club, Marina Granovskaia, has now outlined three potential signings to reinforce the team. These players will replace Rudiger and Christensen if they choose to leave. They will also provide great quality to the team that Thomas Tuchel has created at Chelsea.

Matthijs De Ligt of Juventus is the first name on the list. The Dutchman has not been as impressive at Turin as expected. He has a release clause worth €150 million that becomes valid next summer. But, it is more likely that the Blues will try to negotiate a lower fee for him.

“At the moment, expect a quiet January incomings wise, unless Chelsea can do a deal on Koundé because I think he’s clearly someone they’ve tracked for a long time and they've already tried for him once.”

Jules Kounde is another target for Granovskaia, who was close to joining this summer. The move ultimately fell through, and has helped Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr earn a spot in the team. But despite these players, there is a need to make up the numbers and quality options like Kounde and De Lift will help add depth to the squad.

The final name is that of Napoli captain,  Lorenzo Insigne. The winger is out of contract next summer and will be able to talk to foreign clubs in January. Napoli have offered him a 50% pay cut on his new deal, which has left him disheartened. So, he could follow former teammate Jorginho to Stamford Bridge from Naples.
