Chelsea have cooled their interest in Luis Enrique, as they continue to search for a new manager. The club held talks with the former Barcelona and Spain manager, but his demands during the talks were not well received and the feeling was reportedly not right.
As a result, the club has decided to put negotiations with him on standby. Tottenham are also looking at Enrique as a possible option, and could have a free run at him now that their rivals are no longer in active talks.
Chelsea open up talks with Mauricio Pochettino for managerial position
Former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is one of the candidates that has emerged in the race for Chelsea recently. After Ruben Amorim and Luis Enrique have been sidelined as options, the Argentine is one of the names on the shortlist.
But in spite of talks with Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann remains the favourite to become Chelsea’s next manager. The former Bayern Munich manager was relieved of his duties right before the quarter final tie against Manchester City. And he has since been on a break from football.
The compensation agreement with Bayern Munich is not expected to be a problem. And with Anthony Barry expected to go the other way, it will be easy for the two parties to come to an agreement if the compensation needs to be discussed.
Nagelsmann has had initial conversations with the Chelsea hierarchy, and remains the favourite. But they are taking their time to decide as they want to be 100% sure so as to not have the same outcome as Graham Potter.
