Chelsea 1-1 Manchester United: Points shared between two rivals again

Chelsea and Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge and shared a point each in the big game this weekend. Despite the two teams sharing points, there were a number of close chances on both ends and it was an entertaining encounter from start to finish.

Chelsea dominated the first half, with a number of chances falling to them. United, on the other hand, could barely manage a shot on target. Cristiano Ronaldo was benched by Michael Carrick, who opted for Sancho and Rashford to lead the line instead.

Jadon Sancho scored his first Premier League goal in the second half, capitalising on an error from Jorginho. The summer signing raced into the Italian alongside Marcus Rashford, and only had Edouard Mendy to beat. A little footwork opened up the opportunity for him to slot the ball past the Senegalese keeper, and he did so with conviction.

Chelsea started showing some real urgency in their game after that point. The Blues would eventually get their chance, with Thiago Silva earning a penalty for his team. Jorginho would make amends for his mistake earlier, and sent David De Gea the wrong way to equalise from the spot.

Edouard Mendy literally handed the ball to United late in the game, but Fred hit the ball right at the keeper who was way off his line. Antonio Rudiger, on the other hand, could have scored with the final touch of the game. The German blasted the ball over an empty net, and was visibly regretful of his miss after the final whistle blew.

Chelsea’s poor finishing has cost them all three points yet again. It is a game that they could’ve comfortably won, but a lack of clinical finishing has come to take points off of them yet again. If they are to win the title, then they will have to balance their defensive record with a better offensive output.
