Humane, an AI company backed by Sam Altman, has introduced an AI-powered device called the AI Pin, powered by ChatGPT. Unveiled in November, this screenless gadget is specifically crafted to reduce reliance on smartphones, allowing users to wear it on their clothing and execute tasks through its AI capabilities. Priced at $699 (approximately ₹58,000) in the United States, the wearable is scheduled to be shipped in March 2024.
More About the ChatGPT-Powered AI Pin
According to Humane’s official announcement on X (formerly Twitter), “We are thrilled to announce that AI Pin will start shipping in March 2024. All of us here at Humane can’t wait for you to experience your Ai Pin, the world’s first wearable computer powered by AI. We’re incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and support, especially from our earliest supporters.”
The Humane pin represents a wearable technology aimed at minimizing screen time and revolutionizing our interaction with digital devices. Once attached to any piece of clothing, users can issue voice commands, make audio calls, send messages, translate languages, control smart home devices, and more. The device features a laser display that transforms the user’s palm into a mini screen, displaying time, date, and notifications.
Founded by Apple designers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, Humane is a five-year-old AI startup. The virtual assistant integrated into the AI Pin leverages technologies from OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, and utilizes cloud computing power from Microsoft. This virtual assistant can assist in composing messages in the user’s tone, offer a “Catch Me Up” feature to summarize emails, and even act as a live interpreter for language translation.
The Humane AI Pin is priced at $699 (₹58,000), with an additional subscription fee of $24 (approximately ₹2,000). A reliable internet connection is also required for the seamless operation of the AI Pin.
