CES 2021: Microsoft refreshed it’s Surface Pro 7 to Plus

Microsoft has decided to update its Surface Pro lineup for the CES 2021 event. The new and refreshed model is Surface Pro 7 Plus. The design of the device is the same as its previous existing version, but the internal power of the device has been enhanced.

The company is bringing Intel’s latest 11th Gen processors, a bigger battery, removable SSD, and LTE connectivity to the new and refreshed device. For connectivity, the windows maker is bringing LTE to the Surface Pro lineup for the first time since 2015, but unfortunately, Microsoft is not bringing 5G technology to its Surface Pro 7 Plus.

The Specifications include:

  1. The device will start with the Intel Core i3-1115G4 model and the highest processor will be the Intel Core i7 (1165G7).
  2. The Intel Core i5 (1135G7) model will have an optional LTE starting at $1,149.
  3. The base Core i3 model ships with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for $899.
  4. The top model will come with a Core i7 option ($2,799) and it can be configured up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage.

One issue with business laptops has been that they always had been on the lower battery side. But Microsoft is now promising up to 15 hours of battery life on the Surface Pro 7 Plus. The device comes with 10.5 hours of battery life.

“We changed the inside quite substantially, It required us to flip the internals for us to put the SSD here, so when we did that we also updated the TDM (Thermal Design Model) to create more space for a larger battery size.”

“When you look at the Surface Pro X, which has the thinner bezels, there are pretty substantial changes in terms of port locations which is driven by those bezels. Thinning the bezels does require a significant change in terms of form factor and compatibility with previous [models].”

The device ships with 12.3-inch PixelSense Display with a 2736 x 1824) resolution. It comes with a single USB-C port, a USB-A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the Surface Connect port. The device still doesn’t have Thunderbolt connectivity.

Microsoft is planning to start shipping the Surface Pro 7 Plus to customers on January 15th in the US, and it will also be available in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and a large number of European countries.

Overall the refreshed Surface Pro 7 Plus is a good addition to the Surface Series but a decent entry in business laptops.
