When Passion Meets Tension: The Aftermath of a Nine-Goal Thriller
In the wake of Barcelona’s breathtaking 5-4 victory over Benfica, what should have been pure celebration turned into something more complex. Barcelona’s hero of the night, Raphinha, has finally opened up about those tense moments that followed his stunning 96th-minute winner.
The Flashpoint
“I am a person who respects everyone,”Raphinha explained, his words carrying both pride and reflection. “When I was leaving the pitch, there were people who insulted me. I returned the insults – I know I shouldn’t do that.”
Behind the Emotions
Picture this: You’ve just scored a last-gasp winner in one of Europe’s most iconic stadiums. The emotions are raw, the adrenaline is pumping, and suddenly, you’re faced with heated opposition. As Raphinha puts it, “We all got angry.” It’s the human side of football that rarely makes the headlines.
A Game for the Ages
The Brazilian captain, currently in what he describes as “the best moment of my career,” acknowledged the match could have gone either way:
A rollercoaster 9-goal thriller
Multiple lead changes
High-stakes Champions League atmosphere
Controversial moments leading to the winner
WE DO NOT BELIEVE IT!!! FROM 4-2 DOWN TO UP 5-4. RAPHINHA HAS WON IT WITH THE LAST KICK OF THE GAME!!!
Despite the post-match drama, Raphinha’s respect for Benfica shone through: “We knew it would be a very difficult game. They have very high-level players.” This acknowledgment shows the thin line between fierce competition and professional respect.
Looking Forward
The victory secured Barcelona’s place in the next phase of the Champions League, turning what could have been a night of controversy into one of triumph. As for Raphinha? He’s learned his lesson about keeping cool under pressure while maintaining his competitive edge.
What happens when you mix determination, drama, and pure footballing chaos? Barcelona’s incredible 5-4 victory over Benfica at the Estádio da Luz gives us the perfect answer. Let’s break down this unforgettable night of Champions League football.
• Barcelona remains unbeaten in 2025 • Hansi Flick’s bold substitutions changed the game • The win practically guarantees a Round of 16 spot • Raphinha continues to build his Barcelona legacy
A Night of Pure Drama
Imagine being 4-2 down with 20 minutes to go, away from home, in one of Europe’s most intimidating venues. Most teams would crumble – but not this Blaugrana side. In what can only be described as football theater at its finest, the Catalans pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent memory.
• 2′ – Benfica strikes first through Pavlidis • 13′ – Lewandowski equalizes from the spot • 22′ & 30′ – Pavlidis completes his hat-trick • 64′ – Raphinha’s fortunate face-goal gives Barça hope • 68′ – Araujo own goal seems to end it • 78′ – Lewandowski converts another penalty • 86′ – Eric García heads home the equalizer • 90+6′ – Raphinha becomes the hero with a stunning winner
The Hero’s Moment
Just when everyone thought the drama was over, Raphinha had other ideas. In the 96th minute, the Brazilian showed ice-cold composure to cut inside and deliver the knockout blow, sending the away fans into delirium.
Here’s a preview and prediction for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes as PSG take on Man City. Will either team secure a crucial victory to boost their chances of advancing?

PSG vs Manchester City: Match Preview
Heading into this round of fixtures, Paris Saint-Germain sit precariously outside the play-off spots in 25th place, with Manchester City just one point ahead in 22nd. The stakes could rise further following Tuesday’s matches, adding more intensity to this encounter.
The last time Manchester City featured in the Champions League, they were mired in their worst form under Pep Guardiola. A 2-0 defeat to Juventus extended their winless streak in the competition to three games, highlighting their struggles.
City have also lost their last two away games in the Champions League, just one fewer than their previous 28 away outings combined (16 wins, 9 draws, 3 losses). Only once have they endured a longer losing streak in Europe, dropping four consecutive away matches between November 2011 and December 2012 under Roberto Mancini—a dubious record Guardiola will be keen to avoid repeating.
City’s challenges have largely stemmed from the absence of Rodri, their influential midfielder. Since the 2019-20 season, the team has lost just three of 49 Champions League games with the Spaniard in the lineup (6%, 35 wins, 11 draws). However, without him, their win percentage drops significantly, with four defeats in 14 matches (29%, 7 wins, 3 draws).
Despite these setbacks, City appear to have rediscovered their rhythm, going unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions, including a dominant 6-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
Standing in their way are PSG, who are in even greater need of a positive result. Luis Enrique’s team enters this match fresh from a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Salzburg on Matchday 6, a game in which they recorded as many wins and goals as they had managed across their previous seven Champions League outings (1 win, 2 draws, 4 losses).
PSG, however, have not won consecutive games in the competition since February of last year, when they triumphed against Real Sociedad. Their home form adds to their concerns, with three defeats in their last five Champions League games at the Parc des Princes (1 win, 1 draw)—as many losses as in their previous 17 home games combined (11 wins, 3 draws). Additionally, Luis Enrique holds the unenviable distinction of being the only PSG manager to lose three matches in the competition during his tenure.
The hosts enter Wednesday’s clash on a strong 10-match unbeaten run across all competitions. With so much at stake, both teams will be fully committed to chasing a victory.
Erling Haaland is set to spearhead Manchester City’s attack once again, having rediscovered his scoring touch. The Norwegian striker has netted four goals in his last four appearances after enduring a brief four-game drought. His overall Champions League record is staggering, with 46 goals in 45 games and an unparalleled minutes-per-goal ratio of 78 among players with 15+ goals in the competition.
Phil Foden has also been in electric form for City, scoring five times in his last four outings. This includes back-to-back braces against Brentford and Ipswich in recent matches, further solidifying his importance in attack.
For PSG, Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembélé have been their standout threats this season, with both players contributing to 16 goals across all competitions. Barcola (12 goals) recently surpassed Dembélé (11 goals) as PSG’s top scorer, thanks to his decisive strike in their 2-1 Ligue 1 win over Lens over the weekend.
However, PSG’s new signing, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, will be unavailable for this fixture, as only players registered before the start of this Champions League season are eligible to feature in the group phase.
PSG vs Manchester City: Head-to-Head
PSG have managed just one win in seven meetings with Manchester City in European competition (D2, L4), giving them their lowest win percentage (14%) against any team they’ve faced more than five times in Europe.
However, PSG did secure victory in their most recent home match against City in the Champions League, despite registering only six shots in the game—a 2-0 triumph in September 2021. Notably, this remains the fewest shots PSG have ever attempted in a home Champions League match since records began in 2003-04.
This encounter marks the fifth Champions League meeting between Luis Enrique and Pep Guardiola, with both managers claiming two wins each. Interestingly, Luis Enrique joins Jürgen Klopp as one of only two managers to have defeated Guardiola by three or more goals on multiple occasions—achieving this with Barcelona in a 3-0 win in May 2015 and a 4-0 victory in October 2016.
PSG vs Manchester City: Team News and Predicted Lineups
PSG – Team News
PSG face fitness concerns over defensive duo Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi, both of whom have been sidelined throughout January. Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembélé, who missed the last two games due to illness, is expected to return to action.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has officially joined PSG from Napoli, but the club cannot register him for European competition until after the league phase concludes. However, the Georgian faces stiff competition to break into the lineup, with the in-form Bradley Barcola currently excelling.
Ibrahim Mbaye remains sidelined due to an ankle sprain, while Marquinhos has returned to training after recovering from a recent groin strain.
Luis Enrique also has a key decision to make in attack, where big-money signings Gonçalo Ramos and Désiré Doué are vying for a starting spot, with the former likely to get the nod.
PSG – Predicted Lineup (4-3-3)
Goalkeeper: Donnarumma
Defenders: Hakimi, Pacho, Hernandez, Nuno Mendes
Midfielders: Joao Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz
Forwards: Ramos, Lee Kang-in, Barcola
Manchester City – Team News
Manchester City’s injury concerns are easing, with Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb nearing their return, leaving Rodri as the only first-team player unavailable. However, new signings Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, and incoming addition Omar Marmoush are ineligible for the League Phase.
This likely means the defense will remain unchanged from the Portman Road lineup, though Rico Lewis could be introduced. In midfield, Ilkay Gundogan might be partnered with Bernardo Silva, who was rested over the weekend.
Savinho is expected to join the attack after also staying on the bench last time out, while Kovacic, Kevin De Bruyne, and Erling Haaland are virtually undroppable.
Manchester City – Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeeper: Ederson
Defenders: Lewis, Dias, Akanji, Gvardiol
Midfielders: Gundogan, Kovacic, De Bruyne
Forwards: Bernardo, Haaland, Savinho
PSG vs Manchester City: Match Prediction
When Manchester City find their rhythm, they become a formidable force capable of overcoming any opponent. They have a reputation for delivering under pressure and will back themselves to virtually secure a playoff spot this week with a game to spare.
However, PSG won’t be an easy challenge, despite their position in 25th. Their impressive eight-game winning streak highlights their resilience, but none of their recent opponents have matched the caliber of a side like City.
Prediction: PSG 1-2 Manchester City

Knockout Tournament Progresses to Elite Eight

Significantly, Barcelona and Real Madrid avoided each other in the quarterfinal draw, keeping alive the tantalizing possibility of a Clásico showdown in the semifinals or final. The prospect of two more Clásicos this season adds an extra layer of excitement to an already captivating competition.
Additionally, should Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid both progress, fans could witness a Madrid derby in the latter stages, heightening the drama in this prestigious tournament.
Valencia to Host Barcelona in a 2019 Final Rematch
The standout fixture of the quarterfinals sees Valencia taking on Barcelona at the Mestalla. This matchup is a re-edition of the 2019 Copa del Rey final, where Valencia emerged victorious. The Catalans will be eager to avenge that defeat and secure their place in the last four.
For Valencia, this is an opportunity to reignite their cup aspirations and potentially replicate their past success. With both teams boasting rich histories in this competition, fans can expect an intense battle under the Mestalla lights.
Real Madrid Set for a Test at Butarque Against Leganes
Real Madrid’s quarterfinal clash sees them travel to Butarque to face Leganes, a team that has reached this stage of the competition only once before. This matchup evokes memories of their previous quarterfinal meeting, where Leganes shocked Los Blancos to progress.

With the quarterfinal matchups now set, anticipation is building for a thrilling week of football. The prospect of two additional Clásicos this season, should Barcelona and Real Madrid both progress, looms large. Similarly, the possibility of a Madrid derby in the semifinals or final adds further intrigue.
As the road to La Cartuja becomes clearer, the stakes continue to rise. Will the giants live up to expectations, or will underdogs steal the spotlight? One thing is certain: the Copa del Rey promises unforgettable drama in the weeks to come.
Carlo Ancelotti, one of the most revered managers in football history, has decided to call time on his illustrious tenure with Real Madrid. Despite a contract that runs until 2026, the Italian tactician is poised to leave the club at the conclusion of the current season.
His decision to step away marks the end of an era for the Los Blancos, a period defined by triumph, glory, and unparalleled achievements. However, this farewell is not the end of Ancelotti’s coaching career, as he plans to embark on a new challenge with a national team.

Ancelotti’s Monumental Decision to Exit Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti’s announcement to quit Real Madrid comes as a surprise, especially after his contract renewal in December 2023, which kept him tied to the club until 2026. According to Radioestadio Noche on Onda Cero, the 65-year-old has made a definitive choice to leave at the end of the ongoing campaign, despite the high levels of happiness he has experienced at the club. This decision marks a shift in Ancelotti’s future trajectory, with many speculating about his next move, likely involving a national team rather than another club managerial role.
Ancelotti’s exit also signifies the end of a significant chapter at the Spanish giants, having enjoyed remarkable success during his reign. His tenure has been characterized by his calm demeanor, strategic brilliance, and, of course, his ability to win trophies.
The Legacy of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid
Ancelotti’s tenure at Real Madrid has cemented his place as one of the greatest managers in the club’s storied history. His crowning achievement came last month when he won his 15th trophy with the club, adding the Intercontinental Cup to his collection after a triumph in Qatar. This victory further solidified his legacy and ensured his place as one of the most successful tacticians to ever take the helm at Los Blancos.
The Italian manager’s philosophy has often focused on balancing tactical discipline with player freedom, allowing his squad to showcase their best abilities on the field. His success across multiple leagues, including the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga, is a testament to his universal coaching prowess. Under his leadership, Real Madrid achieved historic feats, including winning the Champions League and multiple La Liga titles, earning the admiration of fans and players alike.
Xabi Alonso: The Future of Real Madrid?
With Ancelotti set to depart, the speculation surrounding his successor has begun. Among the top candidates is former Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard has made a significant impact as the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, leading them to a historic Bundesliga title last season. His leadership and tactical acumen have put him firmly on the radar of Los Blancos.
Alonso’s deep connection with Real Madrid adds weight to the rumors linking him with the Spanish capital. However, the midfielder-turned-manager has remained tight-lipped about his future. In a press conference ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, Alonso addressed the speculation. “Already questions on Real Madrid?! [laughs] Time goes by but the affection remains,” he said, adding, “Our bond is very strong, that is clear but my total focus is on Bayer Leverkusen now, that’s in my mind.”
Alonso’s commitment to his current role at Bayer Leverkusen, where he has a contract until 2026, suggests that any potential move to Madrid will have to wait. For now, Alonso remains dedicated to his work in Germany, fully concentrating on his team’s goals and ambitions.
Ancelotti’s Current Focus: Finishing the Season Strong
Although Ancelotti has made his decision regarding the future, his commitment to Real Madrid in the present remains unwavering. The legendary coach is still focused on ensuring that his side finishes the season with as much success as possible. He is fully dedicated to securing more trophies and continuing to build on the foundation he has laid over the years.
Real Madrid’s upcoming Champions League clash against RB Leipzig is one of the key fixtures that will shape the final months of Ancelotti’s managerial tenure. With Los Blancos looking to maintain their status as one of the top clubs in Europe, Ancelotti’s experience and guidance will be invaluable as the season progresses.
What Lies Ahead for Carlo Ancelotti?
While Ancelotti’s decision to step away from club football may signal the conclusion of his time at Real Madrid, it is far from the end of his career. The Italian coach has made it clear that retirement is not in his immediate plans. Instead, he is expected to take charge of a national team, where he can bring his expertise to the international stage.

With his reputation as a tactician in high demand, Ancelotti’s next challenge is likely to be one that tests his skills in a different context. His deep understanding of the game and ability to manage top-tier talent will make him an attractive option for national football federations around the world.
There are rumors that Carlo Ancelotti will quit Real Madrid at the end of the current season, despite his contract running until 2026.
Why is Ancelotti leaving Real Madrid?
While Ancelotti has not confirmed his reasons, sources suggest he is content at the club but has decided to move on after this season. His future likely involves managing a national team.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, who has been successful with Bayer Leverkusen, is considered the favorite to replace Ancelotti if he leaves.
What has Xabi Alonso said about the Real Madrid rumors?
Xabi Alonso confirmed his strong bond with Real Madrid but emphasized that his focus is currently on Bayer Leverkusen and not the rumors linking him with Los Blancos.
Will Ancelotti retire after leaving Real Madrid?
No, Ancelotti has made it clear that he has no plans to retire and is likely to continue his coaching career with a national team after his time at Real Madrid.
Atletico Madrid will look to recover from their unexpected La Liga loss to Leganes as they continue their Champions League journey with a match against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night.

Atletico Madrid vs Bayer Leverkusen: Match Preview
Bayer Leverkusen extended their unbeaten streak to 12 matches across all competitions with a 3-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. Wirtz scored twice, while Schick added another to bring his tally to 12 goals in eight matches. However, the victory came at a cost, as they lost Martin Terrier to injury within 10 minutes, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. Xabi Alonso’s team remains within striking distance of Bayern Munich, trailing them by four points and sitting five points ahead of third-place Eintracht Frankfurt.
Xhaka
In Europe, Leverkusen have been equally impressive, suffering just one defeat so far this season—a 4-1 loss to Liverpool in November, their only away defeat of 2024. Since then, they’ve secured two wins and two clean sheets against Red Bull Salzburg (5-0) and Inter Milan (1-0). In total, Die Werkself have kept a clean sheet in four of their six Champions League matches, showcasing a solid defense alongside their attacking prowess. They are currently fourth in the standings with 13 points, trailing Liverpool by five and sitting one point ahead of Atleti, who are in 11th place.
Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, had a strong domestic campaign, leading La Liga until they were overtaken by Real Madrid following a 1-0 loss to Leganés on Sunday. Before that setback, they had won eight consecutive matches, maintaining five clean sheets and scoring 18 goals. Antoine Griezmann (seven goals) and Alexander Sørloth (eight goals) have been key contributors in the league, while Julián Alvarez has been their top scorer in Europe with four goals in as many games.
Despite losing to Benfica (4-0) and Lille (3-1) in the Champions League, Atletico won four other group-stage matches, scoring 13 goals while conceding just three. Currently, they sit on 12 points in the standings, tied with several teams, including Leverkusen, who have one more point than them.
Koke
Leverkusen enters their upcoming match against Sparta Prague after a dominant 3-1 Bundesliga victory, securing 12 consecutive wins across all competitions. They are second in the Bundesliga, four points behind Bayern Munich, and will be optimistic about their chances against the Czech side. However, they face a challenge, as they have only won three of their last 21 away matches against Spanish teams and have not reached the Champions League knockout stages since 2016-17.
Atletico, having recently ended a 15-match winning streak, now face the pressure of staying in contention for a top spot in the Champions League. Despite their La Liga dominance, they still need to improve their European form, sitting 11th in their group with 12 points after six games. Atletico’s record against Leverkusen stands at three wins and three losses in their last 10 encounters, with a 2-2 draw in their previous meeting in the 2022-23 Champions League group stage in Madrid. Atletico’s home form in Europe has been impressive, with 17 wins and just three losses in 25 games against German clubs, and they have won seven of their last eight Champions League home matches.
Sorloth
Leverkusen, with 13 points from six games this season, are in a similar situation, sitting fourth in the group with 12 goals scored and five conceded. The match between these two teams is crucial, with both sides having everything to play for on the penultimate matchday of the Champions League.

Real Betis is edging closer to securing a loan deal for Manchester United winger Antony, according to sources at ESPN. The Spanish side, currently 11th in La Liga, is leading the race to bring the 24-year-old Brazilian to their squad during the January transfer window.
Discussions are progressing, and although no official agreement has been reached, Betis is increasingly optimistic about finalizing the deal. If concluded, the move would likely see Antony join Betis until the end of the current season, with Manchester United expected to contribute to a portion of his wages.
Table of Contents
Antony’s Struggles at Manchester United
Antony arrived at Old Trafford in 2022 for a hefty fee of over £80 million, making him the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history after Paul Pogba. Despite high expectations, his performances have often failed to meet the lofty price tag. Antony has scored just 12 goals in 95 appearances for the club, most of which came under former manager Erik ten Hag, who also coached him at Ajax.
This season has been particularly challenging for Antony. He has started just three matches across all competitions and has yet to make a Premier League start since May 2023. His declining opportunities in the first team have prompted Manchester United to explore potential destinations for the winger.
Real Betis: A Promising Destination
Betis sees Antony as a valuable addition to their squad as they aim to improve their league standing and prepare for a Conference League play-off against Belgian side Gent.
While several clubs have shown interest in the Brazilian, Betis is currently in the most advanced negotiations. The Spanish outfit is hopeful of reaching an agreement soon to bolster their attacking options.
Challenges in Antony’s Performance
Despite glimpses of brilliance, Antony’s inconsistency has hindered his impact at Manchester United. His Premier League contributions have been underwhelming, with only one goal since April 2023.
In Thursday’s match against Southampton, Antony missed a clear opportunity to score, failing to convert an Alejandro Garnacho cross despite an open goal. This lack of productivity has further complicated his position at the club, leading United to subsidize his wages to facilitate a loan move.
Wider Implications for Manchester United
While Antony’s future remains uncertain, Manchester United is also exploring options for Marcus Rashford. Borussia Dortmund has emerged as the frontrunner to sign Rashford, ahead of AC Milan, which is prioritizing a move for Manchester City’s Kyle Walker due to Serie A restrictions on signing multiple English players.
Antony’s potential departure to Real Betis marks a pivotal moment in his career, offering an opportunity to rediscover form in a new environment. For Manchester United, it signifies a recalibration of their squad strategy as they navigate a challenging season.
The conclusion of the loan deal could provide much-needed game time for Antony while aiding Real Betis in their pursuit of European football. Both clubs appear to have much to gain if the agreement is finalized.
In a decisive moment for Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez has been re-elected as the president of the iconic football club until 2029. This comes after weeks of anticipation surrounding the club’s presidential elections.
Pérez, whose leadership has seen monumental success, will embark on his fifth consecutive term at the helm of Los Blancos. Let’s dive into what this re-election means for the club, its future, and the changes on the board.
Table of Contents
Dominance Under Pérez’s Leadership
Florentino Pérez’s reign as Real Madrid president has been a story of unparalleled success. Since his initial appointment in 2000, Pérez has overseen a transformative period for the club. Under his leadership, Real Madrid clinched three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles (2016, 2017, and 2018), a remarkable feat that solidified their status as Europe’s premier footballing force. Beyond trophies, Pérez’s shrewd management has allowed the club to remain profitable, even during financially challenging periods, such as the pandemic.
The re-election of Pérez is unsurprising given the club’s continued dominance on the field and financial prudence off it. His unopposed re-election this year marks the fifth time he has won the presidency without facing any challengers. It echoes the confidence and admiration the Madrid faithful have for their president. “Having been only one candidacy proclaimed by this Electoral Board and in accordance with article 40, section E, point 2 of the current Social Statutes of the Club, Mr. Florentino Perez Rodriguez is hereby proclaimed president of Real Madrid,” the official Madrid statement confirmed.
Strong Foundations: A New Look at Madrid’s Squad
Pérez’s success isn’t just about his ability to win titles. His approach to squad-building has been strategic and effective. After securing the signings of superstar Kylian Mbappé and the highly talented Endrick, Pérez has made it clear that Real Madrid’s future is in capable hands. “We will go all out to secure the club’s future,” Pérez stated, signaling his commitment to maintaining Madrid’s status at the pinnacle of world football.
One of Pérez’s primary focuses in the coming transfer window is strengthening the defense. Real Madrid’s backline is set to receive significant reinforcements, with a right-back and a centre-back as the key priorities. Reports indicate that Pérez has set his sights on Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as a potential acquisition, which could be a game-changing move if finalized.

Neymar, one of football’s most electrifying stars, is at a career crossroads. Currently recovering from a hamstring injury, the Brazilian forward’s future at Al Hilal seems bleak after his coach, Jorge Jesus, stated that the 32-year-old “can no longer play at the level we are used to.”
With Al Hilal opting not to register him for the second half of the Saudi Pro League season, Neymar is exploring options, with a return to his boyhood club Santos emerging as his priority.

Neymar’s Struggles in Saudi Arabia
Neymar joined Al Hilal in 2023 for $98.6 million, signing a lucrative deal that promised an annual salary of around $100 million. However, his stint in Saudi Arabia has been plagued by injuries, limiting him to just seven appearances and one goal. The club has decided to exclude him from the league squad due to his ongoing fitness issues and the foreign player quota, further complicating his situation.
While Al Hilal intends for Neymar to play in the Club World Cup later this year, the player himself is unwilling to remain sidelined until June. His lack of consistent playing time has prompted him to seek a move, potentially as a loanee, since a transfer fee is unlikely with his contract expiring in a few months.
Santos: A Sentimental Homecoming
For Neymar, returning to Santos, the club where his illustrious career began, is more than just a professional move—it’s a deeply personal aspiration. According to ESPN, Santos is his preferred destination as he dreams of finishing his career where it all started.

Neymar’s father, Neymar Sr., shares close ties with the Teixeira family, who own Santos, making the prospect of a reunion more feasible. Despite Santos CEO Pedro Martins denying advanced negotiations, he stated, “The club is monitoring Neymar’s situation to see how he will resolve his case with his current club.”
Neymar envisions reviving Santos’ glory days, leaving a lasting legacy, and helping the team reclaim its place among Brazil’s elite before he hangs up his boots.
MLS Beckons: A Commercially Attractive Alternative
While Santos tops Neymar’s list, Major League Soccer (MLS) presents an alluring alternative. Reports suggest three MLS clubs, including the Chicago Fire, have shown interest in signing the Brazilian superstar. A delegation from one of the franchises has already traveled to Riyadh to discuss a potential deal.
For Neymar, the MLS offers more than just football—it provides a platform to bolster his global brand. Additionally, a stint in the U.S. would leave the door open for a future return to Santos, allowing him to balance both professional and personal ambitions.
Limited Interest from Europe
At 32 and with a poor injury record over the past 18 months, Neymar’s prospects in Europe’s top leagues appear limited. Few clubs in the Big Five leagues are willing to take a chance on a player with declining fitness and astronomical wage demands, even on a free transfer.
Despite this, Neymar remains a marquee name in football and could attract interest from ambitious projects outside the traditional European powerhouses. However, his age and lack of recent playing time make a return to Europe unlikely.
As it stands, Neymar’s immediate future seems tied to Al Hilal, at least until the summer, when he will likely become a free agent. He may feature sparingly in the Asian Champions League but will ultimately prioritize a full recovery.
Whether he chooses Santos or MLS as his next destination, Neymar’s focus is clear: reignite his career, leave a legacy, and finish on a high note. His decision will mark the next chapter in a storied journey that has captivated football fans worldwide.
Neymar is reportedly leaving Al Hilal due to injuries and the club’s decision not to register him for the second half of the Saudi Pro League season. Limited playing time and fitness concerns have prompted him to explore other options.
What makes Santos Neymar’s preferred destination?
Santos is Neymar’s boyhood club, and he dreams of finishing his career there. He aims to leave a lasting legacy by helping Santos reclaim its position among Brazil’s elite teams.
Is Neymar considering a move to MLS?
Yes, Neymar is open to joining Major League Soccer, with three clubs, including the Chicago Fire, showing interest. The MLS offers him a chance to expand his global brand while keeping the option of returning to Santos in the future.
What challenges does Neymar face in securing a transfer?
Neymar’s high wages, injury history, and limited recent playing time make it difficult for clubs in top leagues to pursue him. However, a loan deal or reduced financial demands could facilitate a move.
Will Neymar stay at Al Hilal until the summer?
There is a possibility Neymar might remain at Al Hilal until his contract ends in the summer of 2025. If so, he may play in the Asian Champions League before leaving as a free agent.

Neymar Jr Full Interview: The Brazillian opens up about Messi, Mbappe & Barcelona!
Q: What happened in 2017 & how did Messi react to your transfer to PSG?
Honestly, I didn’t go thinking that I was leaving Barcelona to become the best in the world. Even in my last week at Barcelona, Messi spoke to me and said: ‘Why are you leaving? Is it because you want to be the best in the world? I will make you the best in the world.’ And I said: ‘No, that’s not the reason. There are other things, it’s more personal and it’s not about you and me.’
And of course, financially, the offer was much better than what I was getting at Barcelona and also there were Brazilians in the new team. I wanted to play with Brazilians like Thiago Silva, Dani Alves who had just signed, Marquinhos and Lucas, all my friends. I said to myself: “I need to have some Brazilians next to me, because Barcelona no longer has any Brazilians.”
I said, ‘I’m going to go there, I’m going to take a chance,’ and that’s what happened. But it wasn’t because I wanted to be the best in the world.
Q: Your best moment as a player?
“My time with Barcelona. I won everything then.”

Q: How is your relationship with Messi and Suarez?
“To this day, we talk. We have a group of the three of us where we exchange jokes. We have a lot of admiration for each other.”
“The MSN trio was the best. We got along so well, we didn’t even have to look where the other was. The partnership we had made things more fun. When one of us scored a goal, the other would try to give him the opportunity to score a goal. When Suarez was competing for the Golden Boot with Cristiano Ronaldo, we were doing everything we could for him to score goals. Our relationship was on and off the pitch.”
Q: What did you learn from Messi?
“I learned from him on the pitch but I think off the pitch he learned from me, because he was very shy. When we would go out or do something funny, he would feel embarrassed But on the pitch I started watching him closely, and I realised that you need more accuracy than power to score goals. It’s about a step that gets you towards the goal, not just a shot.”
When I started following Messi closely, besides watching videos, I thought it was about strength or different things But when you’re with him in training, you realize he doesn’t need to be strong. He’ll get past defenders and calmly shoot the ball towards the goal, the ball going very slowly, but accurately. It’s very simple. I started trying to imitate him, and things started to work out for me. I said to myself, “Oh, this is the right way,” and so I kept going.”
Q: I think you could have been voted the Ballon D’or winner at least once. Did you feel angry about that?
“I’ll be honest, I think I was unlucky with injuries for years in a row, about 6 or 7 years. They weren’t injuries that would keep me out for two weeks, they were injuries that would keep me out for three months or even six months. That’s what hurt me. Because if you think about it, everyone who understands football knows that my peak, my best moments, were at Paris Saint-Germain. The way I was playing there, I would have definitely won the Ballon d’Or, I’m sure of that. But those injuries were the reason my career was hampered.
Of course, every player dreams of being the best in the world and having a Ballon d’Or at home. But it’s not something that’s going to ruin my life. I’m not going to say: ‘Oh my God, I didn’t win the Ballon d’Or, I didn’t achieve this!’ No, it’s not like that. It’s over, we move on.”
Q: Your most difficult moment at Barca?
“One day I felt completely hopeless. I still remember, during half-time of a match, with Athletic Bilbao. I was very angry with myself, blaming myself a lot, and messing everything up on the pitch.
I went to the bathroom and started crying by myself . I was thinking, “What is happening?” and I was so angry. Then I heard a knock on the door. I opened the door, and Messi was there. He asked me, “Why are you crying?” I replied, “No, nothing, nothing.”
Then Dani Alves came to me and said: “Calm down, we are here to help you. We want you to play your best football, like you did at Santos, without any pressure. If you need anything, you can count on us.” He said it quickly and left.
After that, I started to feel more confident and excited to play, and things started to go well.”
Q: How is Your relationship with Mbappe?
“We have had many arguments. But he was very important at the beginning. I called him the golden boy. We had good years together. But when Messi came, I think he was a bit jealous and didn’t want me to share him with anyone (laughs😂)”
