Brighton have found the replacement for Moises Caicedo by signing 19-year-old Carlos Baleba. They have agreed a €27 million fee with Lille for his signature and are confident of sealing the transfer imminently. The French club will also receive €3 million in add-ons if certain conditions are met.
Personal terms have also been agreed between the player and Brighton, only leaving the formalities for the move to be complete. The youngster has only made 23 senior appearances but will now be playing in the Premier League, and will replace their most expensive sale of all-time.
Brighton find Moises Caicedo replacement in Carlos Baleba
Baleba is expected to complete the move in the coming week and feature in their Premier League fixture next weekend. The teenager ranks in the 98th percentile of total blocks and 95th percentile of tackles according to Fbref, in comparison to other defensive midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues.
He also ranks in the 99th percentile of successful take ons, and 90th percentile of progressive carries suggesting that he has a skillset very similar to that of Caicedo.
Given that he is still very young, he has a lot of development to undergo especially with a move to the Premier League. But given Brighton’s history of finding gems across the world and selling them for massive profits, but things can be expected from Carlos Baleba following his Brighton move.
