Carlo Ancelotti has offered Luka Modric the opportunity to join his coaching staff at the end of the season, should he choose to retire from playing. The 38-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and has not yet started negotiations over a renewal. Therefore, rumours suggesting the end of the Croatian’s career have come up.
The midfielder was presented with the opportunity earlier, but he turned it down definitively. Now, there is a possibility that things could turn towards that direction. But sources close to the situation suggest that Modric is still very focused on playing football and winning silverware, including a strong performance at the European Championships with Croatia.
Carlo Ancelotti offers Luka Modric coaching staff job if he retiresÂ
Modric has been an ever-present member of the Real Madrid midfield since joining the club in 2012. He has gone on to make 516 appearances for the club, and has won 23 trophies, one of the highest figures in the history of the club. He formed a formidable partnership in midfield alongside Toni Kroos and Casemiro.Â
But that has been reduced to him and Kroos now that Casemiro plays for Manchester United. But the veterans have continued to show their class in high pressure situations, such as the Champions League knockout stages only a couple of seasons ago when they won the title for the 14th time.Â

Luka Modric had offers from Saudi Arabia this past summer, but was committed to Real Madrid. He has always maintained that he wants to retire at the club, and has stayed true to his word in spite of several options to move away.
If he does indeed join Ancelotti’s coaching staff, it would be independent of the future of Davide Ancelotti and Francesco Mauri, who are both vital to the current set up at the club.Â
