CARAT, Get Your Tissues Ready: DK and Vernon of SEVENTEEN Are Heading to Military Service

Another chapter of SEVENTEEN’s mandatory military service has begun. On July 27, PLEDIS Entertainment confirmed that members DK and Vernon will soon step away from group activities to fulfill South Korea’s required service.

SEVENTEEN : Official Announcement

In a statement posted on Weverse, the agency shared that DK will enlist for active duty in the Army on September 8, while Vernon will begin his service on August 20. Both members are set to take part in all previously scheduled official activities before their enlistment dates arrive.

The agency also asked fans to avoid visiting the enlistment sites in person, citing the number of enlistees and families expected to be present, and made the same request regarding Vernon’s place of alternative service.

What Happens Next for Fans

Once their service begins, DK and Vernon won’t be able to take part in group promotions, but the agency confirmed both members will continue connecting with CARAT, SEVENTEEN’s official fan base, through content prepared in advance. PLEDIS closed its statement by asking fans for continued support until both members complete their service and return safely.

South Korea’s mandatory military service applies to nearly all able-bodied men, including K-pop idols, typically requiring around 18 months of duty — a policy that has shaped the promotional cycles of countless groups over the years, as detailed on Wikipedia.

Why This Matters for SEVENTEEN

With DK and Vernon’s departure, SEVENTEEN joins the long list of K-pop groups navigating staggered enlistments among members. Fans can expect the remaining lineup to continue promotions while both members complete their service, following a pattern many senior K-pop acts have managed successfully before.
