Car Screens Are Getting Massive — Here’s Why Automotive Displays Grew 19% in 2025

According to Counterpoint Research’s Automotive Display Shipment report, total automotive Center Information Display (CID) area surged 19% year-over-year in 2025, driven by consumers demanding larger, smarter in-car screens. Bigger Screens, Everywhere

The 10″–15″ range remains the sweet spot for most vehicles, now accounting for 60% of all CIDs — up from 54% in 2024. The 15″–20″ bracket jumped from 7% to 11%, signalling a clear shift toward larger formats across mainstream models.

Digital Instrument Clusters (DICs) are also following the same trend, with most now based on the 10″–15″ display range — meaning bigger visuals aren’t just for infotainment anymore, they’re becoming the norm across the entire cockpit.

China’s 20″+ Display Obsession

While displays larger than 20″ are still a small slice of the market, they’re the fastest-growing segment — and Chinese automakers are driving it. Features like in-car navigation, streaming entertainment, and even gaming have created strong consumer appetite for oversized screens in China, pushing local brands to go bolder than anyone else globally.

As Counterpoint’s Associate Director Guillaume Chansin noted, MiniLED is “a more affordable alternative to OLED” — making it the technology to watch as automakers look to balance premium aesthetics with cost control.

What’s Coming in 2026: Cost Cuts and Physical Buttons Are Back

The road ahead has some speed bumps. Automakers are recalibrating their EV strategies toward more hybrid models, tightening budgets across the board. At the same time, regulators are pushing back on the all-touchscreen approach:

• China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued new draft regulations mandating physical controls.
• Euro NCAP in Europe is introducing safety testing standards that reduce reliance on touchscreens.
