Sony India announces the first G Master™ standard zoom lens with a constant F2 large aperture

Unmatched Optical Performance

The FE 28-70mm F2 G Master lens stands out with its constant F2 aperture throughout the entire zoom range. This unique feature allows for extraordinary creative flexibility, enabling photographers to achieve beautiful bokeh and high-resolution images that rival the quality of prime lenses. The lens incorporates three extreme aspherical (XA) elements, meticulously crafted to ensure sharpness from corner to corner, even at wide-open F2.

Sony’s advanced Nano AR Coating II minimizes flare and ghosting, while specially designed optics suppress internal reflections, ensuring clarity and contrast, even in challenging lighting conditions. The lens also features a newly developed 11-blade aperture unit, which contributes to its exquisite, soft bokeh, creating images with depth and dimension. Additionally, Super ED and ED glass elements effectively reduce chromatic aberration, enhancing overall image quality.

Compact and Lightweight Design

Despite its impressive capabilities, the FE 28-70mm F2 G Master lens is remarkably compact and lightweight. Measuring just 92.9 x 139.8 mm (3-3/4 x 5-5/8 inches) and weighing only 918 grams (32.4 ounces), this lens is designed for stress-free shooting without compromising on image quality. Its innovative design incorporates advanced optics and XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors, making it an ideal choice for photographers on the go.

Fast and Reliable Autofocus

The lens features four XD linear motors and the latest algorithms to ensure precise control over focus tracking. This technology delivers reliable autofocus performance, making it perfect for fast-paced environments like weddings and sports events where every moment counts. The FE 28-70mm F2 G Master is fully compatible with the α9 III’s high-speed continuous shooting capabilities, allowing for AF/AE tracking of up to 120 frames per second, even while zooming.

Perfect for Cinematic Creations

For filmmakers, the FE 28-70mm F2 G Master lens offers exceptional performance in movie production. Its advanced optical technology minimizes focus breathing, allowing for smooth transitions during rack focus and zoom effects. With a constant F2 depth of field, achieving critical focus for high frame rate 4K 120p and FHD 240p recording is effortless. The lens operates quietly, making it ideal for capturing audio without distractions, and it supports α body breathing compensation for enhanced stability.

Designed for Professional Use

Sony has equipped the FE 28-70mm F2 G Master lens with features that cater to professional needs. It includes Linear Response MF for intuitive manual focus, an adjustable zoom ring torque, and an aperture ring with a click ON/OFF switch. Additionally, there are two customizable focus hold buttons, an iris lock switch, and an AF/MF switch for added convenience.

The lens is built to withstand the rigors of outdoor shooting, featuring silicone gaskets on buttons and switches, a rubber ring on the lens mount, and a fluorine coating on the front element to repel contaminants and make cleaning easy. These thoughtful design elements ensure maximum reliability in challenging conditions.
