‘Call My Agent! The Movie’ Underperforms on Netflix, But the Streamer Isn’t Panicking Yet

Call My Agent! was supposed to be a French comeback story for Netflix. Instead, its movie spin-off stumbled out of the gate globally — yet Netflix is publicly brushing off the disappointment. So, is this real confidence or just damage control? Here’s the full breakdown.

Call My Agent! The Movie- A Rocky Global Debut

The beloved French dramedy, which built major buzz internationally thanks to its agent-world charm, returned as a feature film with a starry cameo from George Clooney and a VIP Paris premiere attended by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos. Expectations were high.

But the numbers told a different story: the film pulled in just 2 million views in its first four days and didn’t even crack the Global Top 10 initially (eventually landing at #7). According to French industry data, that makes it the weakest opening for a Thursday-released French feature in five years — trailing even Lost Bullet 2.

Netflix Says: Not So Fast

At a French industry panel in La Rochelle, Netflix France executives pushed back on the “flop” narrative. Their argument rests on three pillars beyond raw viewership:

Executives called it “too early” for a final verdict, framing the movie as still “finding its audience.”

Why a Sequel Isn’t Off the Table

Several factors suggest Netflix may not walk away:

• Creator Fanny Herrero has hinted she isn’t ready to “close the door” on the story.
• Mediawan, the powerhouse French production company behind the film, considers Netflix its biggest client — a relationship both sides want to protect.
• France Télévisions, the show’s original broadcaster, still holds future rerun rights, giving Netflix a built-in risk-sharing partner if a second run performs well.

Conclusion

Slow numbers don’t automatically mean cancellation — especially for a title carrying this much strategic weight for Netflix’s French content strategy. A sequel would likely take two to three years to materialize given cast schedules, but the door is clearly still open.
