Business Proposal Season 2 Dreams Crushed: Netflix Confirms No Renewal for Rom-Com Sensation

Fans hoping for Business Proposal Season 2 received disappointing news when Netflix officially ruled out renewals for multiple beloved K-dramas. The 2022 romantic comedy captured hearts worldwide with over 102 million viewing hours, yet the charming tale of Shin Ha-ri and Kang Tae-moo remains a one-season wonder—and here’s why.

Business Proposal: Series Overview

Why Business Proposal Season 2 Won’t Happen

The reality behind Business Proposal Season 2 cancellation comes down to K-drama production norms. Unlike Western series that build multi-season arcs, most K-dramas tell complete stories within one season. Netflix labeled Business Proposal as a “Limited Series,” signaling from the start it was designed as a standalone narrative.

According to What’s on Netflix, the decision wasn’t Netflix’s alone. As an internationally licensed original produced by SBS and Kross Pictures, renewal authority rested with the Korean broadcaster, not the streaming giant. While Netflix reportedly hoped SBS might greenlight another season given the show’s explosive popularity, traditional K-drama storytelling conventions prioritize narrative closure over franchise building.

The Numbers That Couldn’t Save It

Between February 28 and April 3, 2022, Business Proposal dominated Netflix’s global Top 10 Non-English TV list, accumulating those staggering 102+ million viewing hours before the final episodes even dropped. Fans across 90+ countries binged the office romance, making it one of 2022’s most successful K-drama releases.

Yet viewership alone doesn’t guarantee Business Proposal Season 2. According to industry analysis, K-dramas like Hospital Playlist that receive second seasons typically announce renewals before Season 1 even finishes airing. The silence following Business Proposal’s finale spoke volumes about SBS’s intentions.

What Made Business Proposal a One-Season Masterpiece

The premise was delightfully simple: Food researcher Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-jeong) agrees to attend a blind date disguised as her wealthy best friend Jin Young-seo (Seol In-ah). The catch? Her date turns out to be Kang Tae-moo (Ahn Hyo-seop), the handsome CEO of the company where Ha-ri works—though he doesn’t recognize her.

What followed was 12 episodes of mistaken identities, fake relationships that became real, and swoon-worthy chemistry between leads who fans adored. The show balanced laugh-out-loud comedy with genuine emotional stakes, featuring not one but two captivating couples as Young-seo fell for Tae-moo’s secretary, Cha Sung-hoon (Kim Min-kyu).

The finale delivered what K-dramas do best: satisfying closure. Ha-ri and Tae-moo overcame Chairman Kang’s disapproval, secured their parents’ blessings, and committed to a long-distance relationship while Tae-moo took his grandfather for medical treatment in America. Both couples received their happy endings, leaving little narrative justification for continuation.

Fan Campaigns Can’t Change K-Drama Economics

Despite passionate fan campaigns demanding Business Proposal Season 2, the show’s complete narrative arc and production realities sealed its fate. Thousands of viewers flooded social media requesting extensions, wanting to see wedding preparations, family meetings, and the couples’ married lives. Comments like “we need Season 2 to complete the beautiful drama” reflected genuine audience investment.

However, as Netflix’s engagement reports confirm, completion rates matter more than viewer passion for renewal decisions. Business Proposal told a satisfying beginning-to-end story adapted from HaeHwa’s webtoon, which also concluded without extensive sequel material.

Other K-Dramas Netflix Ruled Out for Season 2

Business Proposal Season 2 isn’t alone in cancellation. Netflix’s latest engagement report confirmed that Crash Landing on You, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, My Liberation Notes, The King’s Affection, and eight other K-dramas won’t return. This wholesale clarification helps casual viewers understand that most Korean series follow the limited series model rather than the multi-season format common in American television.

According to Screen Rant, this distinction matters because it manages expectations. When fans see “Limited Series” on a K-drama’s Netflix page, they can enjoy the story knowing it’s self-contained rather than waiting indefinitely for renewal announcements that will never come.

The Business Proposal Legacy

While Business Proposal Season 2 remains off the table, the show’s impact endures. Kim Se-jeong’s career skyrocketed, leading to her 2024 hit Brewing Love. Ahn Hyo-seop continued delivering acclaimed performances in subsequent dramas. The series proved that romantic comedies remain viable in an era dominated by darker, grittier content.

More importantly, Business Proposal demonstrated the global appetite for feel-good K-drama romance. Its success paved the way for similar shows and reinforced Netflix’s commitment to Korean content acquisition.
