Sporting CP have agreed the signing of centre-back Jeremiah St Juste from Bundesliga club Mainz. The deal has been made official by the Portuguese club as well.
The transfer fee agreed for the defender is around €9.5 million. He only had one year remaining on his deal with Mainz, and it is a good amount that has been agreed for the €16 million-rated player.
Jeremiah St Juste joins Sporting CP
“Jeremiah approached us and expressed his desire to join Sporting Lisbon, as he is keen to take the next steps in his career in another country. We fully understood and accepted his decision,” said Mainz boss Christian Heidel.
“However, it was also important for us to come to a transfer agreement that was in line with our financial requirements. We wish Jeremiah all the best at his new club. Despite the fact he has missed much of this season due to injury, he has played an important role at Mainz over the last three years,” he added.
Interestingly, Jeremiah St Juste is the fastest player in the Bundesliga this season. Although he has been out of action for the majority of the season due to injury, he has clocked a top speed of 36.63 kmph, which is the highest recorded in the league.
With his move to Sporting CP, St Juste will be introduced to Champions League football starting next season. As a result, he will be able to test himself against some of the best teams in the continent in the process and see if he can deliver at the topmost level.
