“He Deserves the Biggest Apology”: BTS Jungkook’s Deleted Drunk Live — While K-Media Focused on Smoking, ARMY Is Furious

The K-pop world is still reeling — and rightfully so. What started as a late-night candid livestream on Weverse quickly spiralled into one of the most emotionally charged controversies of 2026. Here’s everything that happened and why fans are absolutely heartbroken.

BTS Jungkook Drunk Live Controversy: Key Facts

What Actually Happened on the Live?

Jungkook appeared relaxed yet visibly emotional at times, sipping drinks while interacting with viewers. The approximately 88-minute broadcast began around 3:42 AM KST and was later deleted from Weverse, fuelling speculation about internal decisions at HYBE.

At one point he remarked, “If it weren’t for the company, I’d want to say everything” — which felt less like drunken rambling and more like an emotional outburst from someone exhausted by living as a carefully scripted idol.

He also openly addressed his smoking past: he stated he once smoked and that quitting required consistent effort Wionews — a candid admission that K-media immediately ran with, while burying the far more disturbing revelation.

The Death Threats Nobody Talked About

According to a translated video posted by DJ Jino on YouTube, Jungkook stated that while many admire him, some dislike him — and added that a few have allegedly even sent him death threats. MSN

The reaction from fans was immediate and devastating. Fans were furious that K-media failed to talk about this matter, instead focusing only on his drinking and smoking habits — which fans pointed out are normal things that adults do. nbcpalmsprings

One fan wrote: “Jungkook is getting death threats. He opened up about it to us, but K-media focused on his drinking and smoking instead of trying to protect him.” nbcpalmsprings

A 30-Year-Old Man vs. An Industry’s Impossible Standards

Many netizens questioned whether South Korea’s unusually strict moral expectations toward idols are suffocating grown artists. “Even if you’re not a BTS fan, a 30-year-old adult should be allowed to vent like that,” one widely-shared comment read. Total Apex Entertainment

The backlash also caused some fans to leave the fandom, with at least one major K-ARMY fan account announcing its closure — blamed by many on the divisiveness the live created within the community. Sportskeeda

This is a textbook example of the tensions baked into K-pop — where global superstars are still expected to perform perfect idol personas around the clock, regardless of their mental health or personal realities.
