Bridgerton Season 5: Eloise or Francesca — Who Gets the Crown Next, and When Will It Hit Netflix?

Season 4 of Bridgerton has barely settled in, and yet the internet is already buzzing about one burning question: who leads Season 5? If you’ve been following along, you know the show’s magic lies in handing each season to a new Bridgerton sibling — and with Benedict’s Cinderella-inspired story now told, the race to the altar is wide open for two of the most beloved characters in the entire series.

The answer, according to showrunner Jess Brownell herself, is hiding on a pocket-square. At the Season 4 premiere red carpet, Brownell flashed a handkerchief embroidered with the initials E & F — confirming that both Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Francesca (Hannah Dodd) will headline Seasons 5 and 6. The only mystery left? Who goes first.

Bridgerton Season 5 — What We Know So Far

The Case for Francesca First

Season 4 invested heavily in Francesca’s emotional journey — the heartbreaking loss of her husband Lord John Stirling, and the quietly building connection with Michaela (Masali Baduza), a gender-swapped version of the novel’s Michael. The groundwork for her full arc, drawn from When He Was Wicked, has essentially already been laid. Bringing her back as the lead in Season 5 feels like the most natural progression storytelling-wise.

The Case for Eloise First

Chronologically though, Eloise is next in line. Her novel — To Sir Phillip, With Love — follows her secret correspondence with a widower named Sir Phillip Crane, a character audiences briefly glimpsed in Season 2. By the end of Season 4, Eloise has declared herself a “spinster,” done with marriage — yet her jealousy watching her siblings find love is quietly, unmistakably there. That tension is rich storytelling territory waiting to be explored.

Both timelines from books 4, 5, and 6 take place roughly around the same period, meaning the writers have flexibility to go either route without disrupting the broader narrative.

When Can We Expect Bridgerton Season 5 on Netflix?

Filming is expected to begin in Spring 2026, with an estimated 8-month shoot. Factoring in post-production — which for a show of Bridgerton’s scale is notoriously lengthy — the earliest realistic window for Season 5 is late 2027, with early 2028 being the more probable target.
