Brentford owner Mathew Benham is attracting offers for the club, with a valuation of £400 million expected early on. Benham has been in charge of the club since 2007, when the club were in League Two, and have risen through the ranks to become Premier League standard.
He has hired Rothschild to oversee a takeover process which could see him let go of a controlling stake in the club. Plenty of bids from the USA are expected in the coming weeks, with a potential sale expected to take a significant amount of time.
Brentford to be put up for sale with a valuation of £400 million
‘Given the recent rise and growth of our club and the changing shareholder landscape within the Premier League, it’s no surprise that there has been interest in investment opportunities at Brentford FC.
‘While Matthew Benham’s commitment to the club remains as strong as it ever was, it is only natural, and perhaps even essential, for us to carefully explore what new investment could potentially mean for the future of Brentford FC,’ the club told Bloomberg in December.
‘We must not stand still and we remain absolutely determined to safeguard the long term future of Brentford FC and to remain competitive in the world’s most challenging and successful league.’
Since Benham’s involvement, the club has moved to the GTech Community Stadium in 2020, securing promotion to the top flight shortly after. They have achieved finishes of 13th and 9th in the top-flight under manager Thomas Frank, though this season has been more of a struggle.
A sale for the Bees would only invite more competition in the Premier League, considering the vast financial power of all clubs across the board. The club has already been overperforming after arriving in the top flight, and with the right backing, they could be another top club in London alongside the heavyweights.
