Leeds United have agreed the signing of attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson from RB Salzburg. The signing has been officially announced by the Premier League club, after they avoided relegation by the finest of margins.
The transfer fee involved is £28 million, and the player will complete his medical for the move in the coming weeks. He has agreed personal terms with Leeds for a contract until 2027, and will be reuniting with Jesse Mersch at Elland Road.
Brenden Aaronson officially announced by Leeds United
Here is what Brenden Aaronson told Sky Sports about his transfer to Leeds: “I like to say I was a football addict growing up watching the Premier League games, it’s a dream to be here.
“I had to play with my team and give them my all with Red Bull Salzburg and give them all I had for the rest of the season. I was focused on that but also I was looking at the results from Leeds and this last one had me sweating a little bit.
“He [Marsch] was definitely a factor but in general the club was just a massive pull for me. How big, how historic, how the fans are, how the team is, it’s a dream place for me.”
The 21-year-old has been nicknamed the ‘Medford Messi’ due to his eye-catching footwork. He made 41 appearances across all competitions for the Austrian side last season, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists. His versatility will be a big factor for Leeds, and will help them with their performance in the attacking third going forward.
