Brazil defeated Peru 1-0 to become the first entrants in the 2021 Copa America final, and their journey to get there has been quite impressive. Let’s take a look at their story from the group stages to the final.

They launched their campaign in style, dispatching both Venezuela and Peru by huge margins of defeat. They defeated Venezuela on the first match day 3-0, and then Peru, 4-0. The team faced it’s toughest challenge of the group stages in Colombia, but edged out the match 2-1.

Their final game of the fixture was played out as a draw, with the hosts of the tournament already having secured qualification by that point. So, after drawing 1-1 with Ecuador on the final group stage match day, they set up a clash with Chile in the quarter finals.

That match was played out to narrow margins as well, with Brazil winning the game 1-0 to progress to the next round. They faced Peru in the semi finals, a rematch from the second match day and a chance for the opposition to extract revenge for the big defeat in the group stages. However, Brazil defeated them again, only this time the score was 1-0 and Peru did put up a better fight.

Brazil have won the Copa America every time it has been held in their country, the latest instance being the 2019 edition of the tournament. So, even if they face Argentina in the finals, it will be a difficult one to rule them out of.
