Membership Approval and Strategic Discussions

The Boxing Federation of India’s membership application was approved by its General Assembly and is set to be ratified by World Boxing’s Executive Board. BFI President Mr. Ajay Singh recently met with World Boxing’s President and Secretary General to explore ways India can support the Federation in expanding its membership base in Asia, where the BFI stands as one of the largest National Federations.

Leading Role in Asian Confederation

As a testament to its dedication, the Boxing Federation of India aims to play a pivotal role in establishing an Asian Confederation. This initiative will focus on recruiting other National Federations within the region, thereby strengthening the presence and influence of boxing in Asia.

Active Participation and Hosting Ambitions

The Boxing Federation of India also plans to actively contribute to the work of World Boxing Committees and Commissions. Furthermore, it intends to bid for hosting World Boxing competitions and supports the Federation’s efforts to secure commercial partnerships and generate new income streams.

Statements from Leadership

Boris van der Vorst, President of World Boxing, expressed his enthusiasm: “India is a very important country in international boxing, and we look forward to welcoming the BFI into the growing World Boxing family. This development will significantly increase our presence in Asia, and I look forward to working closely with the BFI to achieve our common goals.”

He further emphasized the importance of joining World Boxing for future Olympic participation: “The IOC has made it clear that National Federations must join World Boxing to ensure their boxers can compete in future Olympic Games. Following the example of the BFI is crucial for the sport’s Olympic future beyond Paris 2024.”

BFI President Mr. Ajay Singh highlighted the importance of Olympic status for boxing: “It is vital for the sustainability of boxing to retain its Olympic status. We are delighted to join World Boxing and look forward to shaping the sport’s future alongside the Executive Board and fellow members. Our goal is to lead the formation and hosting of a new Asian confederation to continue expanding boxing’s membership on the continent.”
