Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that their club captain Marco Reus will be leaving at the end of the season, as a free agent. The attacking midfielder has spent 12 years with the black and yellow club, and has become synonymous with them during his spell there.
In spite of interest from several other top clubs such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, the German opted to go against the grain and stay loyal to Dortmund. And now, aged 34, he will be moving on from the club for good.

Since arriving from Borussia Monchengladbach, Reus has made 424 appearances, scoring 168 goals and providing 128 assists. He has won the DFB Pokal twice during his time with the club, and has won the DFB Super Pokal three times. Reus has also been named the German footballer of the year twice.
Injuries have detailed the player’s career significantly. The most prominent instance was when Reus missed out on the 2014 World Cup, in spite of being named in the squad. He sustained an injury right before the tournament began, which ruled him out from the victorious campaign.
It now remains to be seen where the veteran goes in what could be the final chapter of his career.
