From Meme to Movement: Bollywood Stars Joining Cockroach Janata Party Is India’s Most Unexpected Political Story of 2026

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) — a satirical political movement born on Instagram — has crossed 20 million followers in under a week, and some of India’s biggest celebrities are now openly backing it. From filmmakers to pop stars, the swarm is growing fast.

What Is the Cockroach Janata Party?

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is a viral satirical movement that began on social media following comments allegedly made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. During a May 15 hearing, he reportedly compared youngsters — particularly unemployed youth and online activists — to “cockroaches” who attack everyone online.

The fictional political outfit was launched on May 16 by Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old Boston University graduate. What started as an internet joke rapidly turned into a viral satire campaign, crossing 10 million followers within five days.

Its manifesto describes the movement as “secular, socialist, democratic, lazy,” and proposes unconventional ideas such as banning post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for former Chief Justices, introducing 50% reservation for women in Parliament, and imposing a 20-year electoral ban on defecting MLAs and MPs.

Why It Actually Matters

The celebrity support matters here because Bollywood and creator culture rarely stand so openly with youth frustration unless the mood outside is too loud to ignore.

Shashi Tharoor called it an opportunity for the Opposition, noting that the rise of CJP reflects “youth frustration with unemployment and inflation.”

This isn’t just a meme. The CJP taps into something political satire has always done best — it uses humour to say what mainstream politics cannot. When Gen Z reclaims an insult and builds an identity around it, that’s not trolling. That’s resistance.

Gen Z took an insult, turned it into identity, and now Bollywood’s support has pushed that identity into the national conversation.
