BOE, the Chinese electronics company has launched a display, which is the world’s first 55-inch UHD AMQLED display. At the starting of this year, the display panel maker launched a high-resolution quantum light-emitting diode display.
Don’t get confused with the AMQLED display with a QLED display. QLED display is a normal LCD, but the AMQLED display is clusters of quantum dots, acting as pixels, which emits light when an electric current is applied. The additional attraction is the R&D of large quantum dot printing technology and products.
The Chinese display panel maker has explained about its new product, “Quantum dot technology has made its way into display products including photoluminescent quantum dot-based backlight unit (QD-BLU) and electroluminescent AMQLED. AMQLED displays do not require a backlight; instead, quantum dots can emit light themselves when stimulated by the current. AMQLED displays present a variety of advantages such as self-emitting, a wide colour gamut, and a long lifetime, representing the development trend of quantum dot displays.”
BOE has taken a step forward in technological innovation by the uniformity and stability during large-size quantum dot printing. The new AMQLED display from BOE comes with a 55-inch 4K display and it features a 3840×2160 resolution, a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, a color gamut of 119% NTSC.
BOE is a leading global company of quantum dot electroluminescent research and development. The company launched a prototype of 5-inch and 14-inch AMQLED in 2017, fabricated by inkjet printing. So, this is the first step after the prototyping stage.
