Blumhouse Meets Bad Robot: Inside Netflix’s New Gothic YA Thriller “Sid & Zoey”

A seductive outsider, a punk-rock police chief’s daughter, and a small Mississippi town hiding something dark beneath its postcard charm — Netflix just greenlit “Sid & Zoey” after a fierce bidding war, and the creative team behind it reads like a horror dream team.

The Team Behind It

“Sid & Zoey” is an eight-episode YA supernatural horror romance created by Jon Kasdan (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”), who will write, showrun, and executive produce. He’s backed by heavyweight genre talent: Jason Blum, James Wan, and Rob Hackett of Blumhouse Atomic Monster — the studio behind “The Conjuring” franchise and the viral hit “Obsession” — alongside J.J. Abrams, Rachel Rusch Rich, and John Shiban representing Bad Robot.

What’s the Story?

According to Netflix’s official logline, the series follows Sid, a seductive and amoral New York teenager sent to live with a police chief’s family in an idyllic Mississippi town where his mother grew up. There he meets the chief’s sharp-witted, punk-rock daughter, Zoey. As the two resist their obvious attraction, they’re pulled into a hidden, dark world beneath the town’s charming surface — and a paranormal mystery that could get them killed, assuming they don’t kill each other first.
