Anthony Davis re-signs with LA Lakers on a five-year deal

0

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Anthony Davis’ agent Rich Paul has confirmed that Davis has agreed to a five-year, $190 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal will presumably start at Davis’ maximum salary of $32.7 million for the upcoming 2020-21 season and also includes an early termination option ahead of the 2024-25 season, which will be the fifth year of the deal. Although, with four guaranteed seasons, Davis has committed to the Lakers at least until his 31st birthday.

This agreement comes only one day after big man LeBron James agreed to a two-year, $85 million extension if his own deal with the Lakers. Technically, Davis is under contract for one year longer than James. During the final year of that deal, James will turn 38 years old, and NBA rules restrict long-term contracts from extending beyond a player’s age-38 season. Both James and Davis are represented by Klutch Sports and Rich Paul, and all indications suggest that LeBron plans to spend the rest of his career in Los Angeles. After Davis’ deal, he can feel secure in knowing that Davis will be there with him.

The only drawback is that these deals will limit the Lakers financially, moving forward. Before James and Davis re-signed, there existed situations in which the two could have left money on the table to clear the cap space needed to sign a superstar free agent next summer (presumably, Giannis Antetokounmpo). Now, with James and Davis locked in at the max, that possibility is most likely gone.

Although, coming off of a championship season, such a splurge is not something that Los Angeles necessarily needs. James and Davis could very well be NBA’s two best players entering the 2020-21 season, and the Lakers have also revamped their supporting cast by adding Wesley Matthews, Marc Gasol, Denis Schroder and Montrezl Matthews to the roster. With these players in place, the Lakers are now positioned to contend as long as James remains their big man.

When James will no longer be their superstar, Los Angeles can rest easy knowing that Davis is locked in and ready to take his place as the face of the franchise. In 2019, the Lakers paid a hefty trade sum to land Davis. The move more than paid off considering his performance in the last season’s championship. He will only continue to justify their investment now, with a minimum of four more years as he wears purple and gold.

India clinched a win in the first T20 against Australia

0

Team India leads by 1-0 in the T20 against Australia series as India defeated Australia in the first of three T20s at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

The toss was won by Australian captain Aaron Finch and opted to ball first. The visitors scored a total run of 161 runs with a loss of seven wickets.KL Rahul was the highest scorer with 51 runs off 40 balls, adding his 12th T20 half century to the record.

The second highest score was of Ravindra Jadeja with 44 runs off 23 balls. But during his speedy knock, Jadeja picked up a hamstring injury and looked uncomfortable, however, the medical team checked upon him. Later on, he was hit on the helmet by a ball while missing Mitchell Starc’s bouncer and seemed very uncomfortable and limping in the final over for bowling. However, there is controversy over Jadeja’s injury, in case if it’s a concussion. But later on, BCCI announced that Jadeja suffered a concussion. Jadeja was later on replaced by Yuzvendra Chahal. Sanju Samson’s 23 runs off 15 balls also helped India to increase the total run chase.

Australia’s chase started with Finch attacking and smashing the balls in all corners. However, Australian skipper, Aaron Finch’s dismissal helped India to comeback. Adding to that Steve Smith and M. Wade’s dismissal by Chahal was decisive. D.Short and Glenn Maxwell’s wicket by T. Natarajan also proved decisive in India’s win with Hardik Pandya’s catch of D. Short and Aaron Finch.

This T20 win over Australia definitely helped in boosting India’s confidence for rest of the series. Though Ravindra Jadeja’s injury could show some impact but with a good bowling lineup lead by Yuzvendra Chahal, adding a helping hand of T. Natarajan and Bumrah.

Apple to reduce 15% of the App store commission for eligible developers

Apple is always known for bringing up crazy but innovative ideas for its platforms. Recently the company has launched a new service for App developers that has their apps on App Store.  Its new small business program will allow app developers to receive 15% more from App Store sales.

“The vast majority of developers on the App Store who sell digital goods and services are eligible,” stated the company. The developers need to qualify for the benefit by simply completing the company’s enrollment form available online.

According to sources, the eligible developers making under $1 million per year in App Store sales and in-app purchase revenue will be eligible for the reduced commission rate of 15% for the following year. As we already know, the company takes 30% of all App Store revenue on digital items as per its longstanding policy.

Apple’s notes for the scheme is given below:

  • Existing developers who made up to 1 million USD in proceeds in 2020 for all their apps, as well as developers new to the App Store, can qualify for the program and the reduced commission.
  • If a participating developer surpasses the 1 million USD threshold, the standard commission rate will apply for the remainder of the year.
  • If a developer’s proceeds fall below the 1 million USD threshold in a future calendar year, they can re-qualify for the 15% commission the year after.
  • Developers must identify any Associated Developer Accounts to determine proceeds eligibility.

The deadline for enrollment is December 18th, 2020, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. The adjustment will take place starting from January 1st, 2021. According to the FAQ’s, if a developer applies after the deadline, they must wait until 15 days after they are approved to see the reduced commission rates. So if you are a new developer and have your app running life, then, by all means, hurry up and apply for the new policy change.

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT performs extremely well in OpenCL benchmark score

0

The benchmark result for the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT was posted by a Twitter user, APISAK, in the OpenCL database. The tested engineering sample managed to reach a maximum core frequency of 2.02 GHz during the benchmarking process. It also managed to get the OpenCL score of 169,779 points.

The results place the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT right behind the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 which managed a score of 177,724 points. And also the GeForce RTX 3090 which scored 202,869 points of the score in the benchmark. On the other hand, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT scored 151,332 points, while the AMD Radeon RX 6800 only managed 125,991 points.

But according to sources, the OpenCL benchmark reported only 40 compute units on the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Whereas according to AMD, the card should come with 80 compute units. So we can assume that the product is not the final version of the card and it will be much faster than the engineering models. The “Big Navi” GPU is expected to hit the market with a maximum GPU clock speed of 3 GHz.

Suppose all goes well than AMD will launch its Radeon RX 6900 XT on December 8 with a price tag of US$999. But according to reports the AIB’s will only start producing the custom models of Radeon RX 6900 XT only by the Q2 of 2021. So we have to wait till we get to see the official performance of the card. For now, we can only be satisfied with the benchmark results. But the results have increased the expectations of many and will surely not disappoint us with the final product.

Google rolls out new live wallpaper update for Photos App

0

Android users who are bored of their usual wallpapers will be happy to know about the new update that Google is rolling out for the Photos app. Google Photos will now allow users to set their wallpaper as a random, rotating cast of saved photos in the update version 5.22. The new version will automatically include the update, so if you have version 5.22, you can go to your phone’s wallpaper selection setting and check out the live wallpaper. The option will be called “Memories”.

Google enhanced the Memories feature in the Photos app as part of a redesign earlier this year. A dedicated tab and various categories of memories including images from trips and other highlights were brought out. Now, with the new update, users can select the “Memories” setting and your phone will start pulling photos from the Memories section of Google Photos to cycle between as background. Before applying the changes, users can have a preview of the wallpaper.

XDA Developers have confirmed that they were able to apply the new Live wallpaper feature on their Galaxy Note20 Ultra, which concludes that the capability is not exclusive to Google’s devices. Considering that the update is still new and has just begun rolling out, it could take time before it propagates to more devices. Additionally, any specific OS version requirements for these dynamic wallpapers have not been released either.

What can be considered as a drawback in the update is that Google defines what counts as a memory based on its machine learning algorithms, so the user is not able to really select what shows up. Photos could range from lovely vacation pictures of hills or beaches to a photo of your sad home office lunch. Who knows what will turn up!

However, considering Google is eliminating unlimited, free photo storage on June 1st, 2021, you might as well try this out now if you’re ever going to. If you think you might end up switching services, as Google Photos will start charging for storage over 15GB, now’s the time to try out a live wallpaper.

Chelsea could be David Alaba’s only realistic destination

David Alaba is nearing the end of his contract at Bayern, and as of now, there are no talks between Bayern and David for a contract extension.

On episode 14 of Fabrizio Romano’s “Here We Go” podcast, Romano and BILD’s Christian Falk had an in depth conversation regarding David Alaba’s future.

The club offered him a deal and he didn’t decide in time. Hence, now there is no offer for the defender to extend his stay at Bavaria.

Come January, he can negotiate with various clubs that would want him, as he would be allowed to do so. With Bayern, there is currently no movement and it is getting difficult.

Alaba is dreaming about playing for clubs of the sizes of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Unfortunately, a move to Spain looks unlikely. On one hand, Zidane isn’t happy because he can’t spend any money on transfers. His position at the Bernabeu is also under question after the recent slump in form.

While Barca are currently searching for defenders, they can’t pay up owing to the financial crisis at hand. These clubs are out of the deal at the moment.

There are a lot of rumours from England, especially Chelsea. It is a norm for Chelsea to talk to everybody available for a transfer. All that said, there is nothing advanced yet.

Alaba Chelsea could be David Alaba's only realistic destination

Chelsea have to play the season with the players they already have. The agents of Alaba are hoping to get him to Chelsea since they have the money to spend on players amidst the dry market.

PSG have been linked with Alaba as well. In his heart, he would really like to stay. He’s a leader at Bayern and now, has to start again and also wants a big amount of money. Bayern are not willing to pay because they have a strict salary structure in place at the club.

The biggest players at the club of the likes of Lewandowski and Muller have had to accept it. Germany in general refrains from  shifting from deadlines and structure. They are very particular about these things, as seen in the Sancho transfer saga this summer.

Since Alaba can speak English, Chelsea could be a fit for him. Additionally, there are German players to help him out as well. There are no talks between the two parties yet, but something could materialise in January.

East Bengal dealing with heavy injury crisis by turning to reserves

SC East Bengal’s introduction to the ISL has been close to a nightmare for the fans of the club. Their opening match was against Kolkata derby rivals ATK Mohun Bagan. The newcomers lost the encounter 2-0 but looked decent in their display, but had much work to be done.

If the humiliating 5 goal deficit against ATKMB and Mumbai City wasn’t enough, club captain Danny Fox is confirmed to have suffered an injury by manager Robbie Fowler.

“We are not sure about his injury status. Hopefully, we’ll be able to find out in the next two days about the extent of the injury,” East Bengal assistant coach Tony Grant told the club’s website on Wednesday.

“It’s too early to say anything. His leg is a bit sore now, but he is due to go for a scan. We don’t have the exact information right now.”

The Captain was subbed off within the first quarter of the match and is rumoured to be sure to miss the next match against NorthEast United tomorrow.

Loken Meitei featured in the match against ATKMB but has suffered a sort of tear, according to the assistant manager.

“(He) has sustained some sort of a tear. He had been training well, so the boy is really upset. We’re not sure as to how long he will be out of action. But he has been hitting the gym every day and will give himself the best chance to come back as early as possible,” said Grant.

In order to cope with their injury crisis, East Bengal are reportedly arranging measures to fly in players from the reserve squad to make up the numbers.

Defender Anil Chauhan and midfielder Milan Singh, along with Brandon Vanlalremdika have been asked to travel to Goa. It is worth keeping in mind that these players won’t be available immediately and will have to isolate for 14 days before getting a chance to feature.
