Netflix and Sony Pictures signed a Multi-Year Exclusive Streaming Agreement

Popular streaming platform Netflix Inc. has secured exclusive U.S. rights to new movies from Sony Pictures after they leave theaters. In the deal announced on Thursday, a multi-year agreement has been reached by Netflix and Sony, giving the streaming giant upcoming films in the popular “Jumanji” and “Spider-Man” franchises.

The entertainment division of Sony Corp. also gave Netflix another potential pipeline of original films as they have the first chance to buy movies that aren’t headed for theaters and take part in their production. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, though an earlier report by Bloomberg News stated that Sony was seeking as much as $250 million a year.

The titles from the Japanese media conglomerate, Sony, include some of the most popular film franchises at the box office year in and year out. Netflix will also be the streaming home for “Morbius,” a spinoff of “Spider-Man,” as well as “Where the Crawdads Sing,” an adaptation of the bestselling novel.

The agreement between Netflix and Sony comes into effect with Sony’s 2022 movie slate. Starz, owned by Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., had Sony’s previous pay-TV deal.

After the news published, in New York, shares of Netflix rose as much as 1.8% to $556.90, their highest in more than a month. Lions Gate also briefly spiked in that time frame, rising as high as $16.28, before retreating.

Netflix, which already releases nearly 60 original movies a year, will not see millions of new subscribers due to these titles. But they will be able to keep users entertained in between new series. Netflix previously offered new movies from Walt Disney Co., until the California-based studio decided to keep its movies on Disney+.

Sony is the only major Hollywood studio whose ownership does not lie with a company that competes with Netflix in streaming. Netflix did not include in the announcement how long Sony’s movies will play in theaters before they appear on the streaming platform. Other movie studios have shortened the time between theatre releases and home viewing, but the lag may see an increase hopefully soon when Covid-19 cases fall and theaters are reopened worldwide.

F1 to hold three Saturday sprint races in 2021

0

F1’s desire of holding Saturday sprint races is now set to go through, with the chiefs of the company reportedly having agreed terms with teams participating in the Bahrain Grand Prix. The races on Saturday will now offer a few points each to the racers ranking in first, second and third with the leaders getting 3,2 & 1 points based on their finishing respectively.

These 100km sprint races are expected to be held on a trial basis this year, and will come in permanently starting next year. The three races are predicted to place at the British Grand Prix on July 17, the Italian Grand Prix on September 11 and the Brazilian Grand Prix on November 6.

The major question mark surrounding the extra race was the financial angle, with teams being unwilling to invest in another race amidst the financial capping rules out in place by F1 as well as bearing the cost of preparing for an additional race.

However, that has now been resolved with the F1 officials now having agreed a compensation worth €450,000 with each and every participating team to help them out with the preparation. Also, any extra costs incurred such as damage bills will also be partially sponsored by F1.

Speaking at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said getting the financial details sorted was important for the bigger outfits who were pushing right at the limit of F1’s new budget cap.

“There just has to be a sensible allowance that takes that into account, because we’re chasing £10,000, £20,000, £30,000 savings at the moment to ensure that we’re hitting the cap,” he said.

“To suddenly have a variable like this is something that just needs to be accommodated. We’re keen to support it but there needs to be an accommodation.”

Abu Dhabi’s Mudabala planning GlobalFoundries IPO at $20 Billion Value

0

Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Investment Co. is getting chipmaker GlobalFoundries prepared for a U.S. initial public offering (IPO), people with knowledge of the matter have informed Bloomberg.

The Emirati state-owned holding company that can be characterized as a sovereign wealth fund has been having initial discussions with potential advisers about a listing of GlobalFoundries that has the potential to value the business at approximately $20 billion. It hasn’t yet selected underwriters, Bloomberg’s sources have said, asking not to be identified because the information is private.

Proceedings are at an initial stage, and details of the potential deal could change.

Representatives for both Mubadala and GlobalFoundries have refused to comment.

GlobalFoundries Chief Executive Officer Thomas Caulfield, in a Bloomberg Television interview this week, said the company always reviews strategic alternatives, and the timetable for an IPO “has always been some time in 2022.”

The IPO market is on the rise since last year, with technology firms from South Korean e-commerce operator Coupang Inc. to American food-delivery service DoorDash Inc. jumping on their debuts. Indian startups including Zomato and Policybazaar have also been slated to go public this year. According to Bloomberg, “the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index has gained 71% over the past 12 months, outpacing the 49% gain in the S&P 500 Index.”

Contract Chipmakers

GlobalFoundries is one of the largest contract chip manufacturers, competing with the outright market leader from Taiwan, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC). The company was created when Mubadala, in 2019, bought Advanced Micro Devices Inc.’s (AMD) manufacturing facilities and later combined them with Singapore’s Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd.

With factories in Europe and the U.S., GlobalFoundrieshas cemented a unique position for itself as the chipmaking industry gets sucked into the trade war and tension between the U.S. and China. Most of the rest of the foundry manufacturing of chips takes place on Taiwanese or on South Korean soil, and politicians from U.S. and Europe are increasingly pushing chipmakers to build more capacity outside of Asia.

As the world economy takes a step forward and away from the coronavirus pandemic, GlobalFoundries has seen a sharp increase in demand for the tiny electronic components it manufactures for other companies.

Surprise Surge

Studying and working from home and reluctance to use public transport in this social-distancing era, sparked a rally in demand for personal computers and cars, spurring a surge in demand that caught some in the chip industry by surprise.

Caulfield and his peers do not consider this spike a one-time event. The increasing use of artificial intelligence and other forms of computing in new areas will spur a multi-year expansion of industry sales, Caulfield has said.

Manchester City will have to pay out £158 million in bonuses if they win the quadruple

0

Manchester City is closing in on an unprecedented feat that involves them winning the quadruple this season. That is including the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and the Champions League trophy. In a recent finding, the club’s accounts show that such an achievement will come at a massive cost. Literally.

With player’s contracts having bonuses for achievements, the amount that can be paid out will amount to a staggering £158 million.

‘That is the incentives in contract deals and transfers,’ said Kieran Maguire, football finance expert and lecturer at the University of Liverpool. ‘Every player’s contract has a lot of small print and there are additional transfer fees should a club achieve certain goals.

‘The money will be payable in 2020-21 assuming City are successful. In that sense it is a worst-case scenario.’

Had City achieved the feat last season, the amount to be paid out in bonuses would have amounted to more than £200 million. However, that figure is lesser this time around. Moreover, the financial climate surrounding the footballing world has made things even more difficult for clubs in terms of payouts, and the bonuses will have to be paid in installments to make sure the club’s finances keep on running.

City are 14 points clear at the top in the Premier League, are in the finals of the Carabao Cup, and in the semi finals of the FA Cup. Lastly, they have a lead in the quarter finals of the Champions League against Dortmund and will be hoping to progress to the last four there as well.

All the details of Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world FPS – Far Cry 6

0

The next shooter of Ubisoft, Far Cry 6 is set during the riots trying to remove the evil dictator El Presidente from power. Here are all the details about Far Cry 6, including what is new in this title and its potential ties to Far Cry 3.

Far Cry 6 Release Date

As per the listing of Microsoft Store, Far Cry 6 will launch on 25th May of this year. Ubisoft hasn’t declared anything about this date. No date still has been confirmed for the official release.

Far Cry 6 is Set in The Tropical Nation Yara

According to Ubisoft, a lot of fans were ready for a tropical setting. Esperanza is the capital city, Fry Cry’s first-ever main urban environment, which Ubisoft says will appear somehow different from the previous games.

“The verticality is a complete game-changer,” says narrative director Navid Khavari in an interview. “Being able to run across rooftops, use back alleys, fight against some of the toughest opponents in the game in this setting, I think is really unique and fresh.”

You’ll Play The Character Named Dani Rojas

Players will have to option to choose the male or female character for the game. You’ll hear the in-game voice of the character from either Sean Rey or Nisa Gunduz, it  totally depends upon your choice.

“We knew that if we’re going to tell the revolution story, if we’re going to tell a story about someone in a guerrilla movement, you need to have that personal connection with them,” says Khavari. “You need someone who’s rooted in the world, who has a background. So we wanted proper performance capture, we wanted to have a voice.”

The Story of Far Cry 6

Here, you have to fight in a revolution against the rule of Anton Castillo, the dictator of Yara, who is ruling for 50 years. Seeing the trailer, it is clear that the time is very dangerous, you can see the government agents with guns and riot shields and civilians with the explosives.

“When you’re looking at something as complex as an island that’s been essentially cut off from the rest of the world for 50 years, been in an economic downturn, electing this leader on the back of this idea of building a new paradise, the idea with Antón is he definitely lulled people into believing this was the only answer for them. That he was the one that was going to solve all their problems,” Khavari says “And so for us, it became super-interesting on the character side to explore the idea of, you know, there definitely were some people that voted for him, that believed in him, that now are regretting that choice; and there are those that still support him. The intersection of those demographics and worldviews and opinions is something that plays out in the story as well.”

Is Diego is Far Cry 3’s Young Vaas Montenegro?

Fans are suspecting that Far Cry 6 could be a prequel to Far Cry 3. The connection came when it was noticed that both have a scar on their right eyebrow.

Vaas’s voice actor Michael Mando teased a possible return to the role during a Reddit Q&A with fans, saying “Vaas is my spirit animal – having co-created that character is something that will always be dear to me. I still get recognized as Vaas, and I still feel the outpouring of love for that character – makes me very happy. Who knows… maybe I will reprise the role very soon?”

Far Cry 6 will be available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, Stadia, and PC.

A look at the new Core i7-1195G7 and the Core i5-1155G7

Intel is yet to launch its new Tiger Lake-H processors in the market, but according to some sources, the Tiger Lake-U and H35 line-up could soon be getting a refresh.

Earlier, we have seen the spec update of the Core i7-11390H and the Core i5-11320H. But now we got information about the Core i7-1195G7 and the Core i5-1155G7 from the Tiger Lake UP3 lineup.

Tiger Lake-H35 Refresh

As of now, the blue team offers us the Core i7-11375H Special Edition, Core i7-11370H, and the Core i5-11300H under the Tiger Lake-H35 umbrella. However, the listed will be further expanded by the inclusion of the Core i7-11390H and the Core i5-11320H.

Coming to the Core i7-11390H, it offers up to 5 GHz boost on two cores and a 300 MHz boost on all cores compared to the Core i7-11375H which offers an all-core boost clock from 4.3 to 4.6 GHz.

The Core i5-11320H on the other hand is now capable of reaching up to 4.5 GHz boost on one and two cores while the all-core turbo gets increased to 4.3 GHz from 4.0 GHz in the Core i5-11300 MHz. The Core i7-11390H will sport 96 execution units (EUs) while the Core i5-11320H will feature 80 EUs.

New Tiger Lake UP3 SKUs

Speaking of the updates Tiger Lake UP3 line-up, we have the 28 W cTDP up the lineup in the 11th gen series (UP4 being 15 W cTDP up). From a well-known leaker @momomo_us on Twitter, we know that there exists a new 11th gen Core i7-1195G7 with a base clock of 2.9 GHz.

The Core i7-1195G7 scored 859 points in the PugetBench test (via Tom’s Hardware). Videocardz also reported spotting a Core i7-1155G7 part on a few retailer websites. This processor reportedly has a base clock of 2.8 GHz and a boost up to 4.7 GHz.

For now, that’s the only information that is available about the SKUs, however, the Core i7-1185G7 and the Core i7-1165G7 have similar specifications. However, the Core i7-1195G7 is reported to have a 100 MHz lower base clock than the Core i7-1185G7.

Intel has not made it clear as to when the laptops which this processor will power will be launched in the market. it seems that Intel is boosting its lineup against AMD’s Zen 3 Cezanne and Lucienne line-up.

AMD silently launches Ryzen 9 5900 with up to 4.7GHz & 65W TDP as OEM only CPU

0

The Red team has silently announced the AMD Ryzen 9 5900 with 12 Zen 3 cores and 24 threads, consuming just 65W TDP. This is the reason why its base clock speed is set to just 3.0GHz but goes up to 4.7GHz boost clock speeds when required.

Whereas, the Ryzen 9 5900X has a 3.7GHz base and 4.8GHz boost clock frequencies, thanks to a higher 105W TDP. Coming to the cache, much like the X variant, the Ryzen 9 5900 sports 64MB total L3 cache and 6MB total L2 cache.

It is an unlocked CPU like all other Ryzen processors and is based on TSMC 7nm FinFET process; the rest all the specs remain similar to that of the Ryzen 9 5900X.

However, the Ryzen 9 5900 will be an OEM-only CPU, so you cannot buy it separately, though and it will be seen on many pre-built PCs by various OEMs.

@TUM_APISAK also spotted the CPU on userbenchmark and the performance seems quite good though. We will soon be bringing the review of the regular AMD Ryzen 9 5900X on our blog, so stay tuned.
