AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) arrives today with Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 update

Finally, today you will get to experience AMD’s new FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology with the new Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 driver. AMD originally announced this upscaling technique at Computex 2021, and it is true that at launch, it is only limited to 7 games.

Obviously, it is not as great as DLSS but is easy to implement, and if it can give some boost without having to upgrade to an expensive RTX card, then a lot of gamers could be happy with it. AMD confirmed using a spatial upscaling technique to generate a “super-resolution” image from every input frame. 

This is a unique approach and can help all gamers without depending on the platform you are gaming or the hardware you are using. So, the tech does not depend on history buffers or motion vectors, neither does it require any pre-game training. 

Here are the key changes you expect from the new AMD Radeon Adrenalin 2020 21.6.1 update that weighs 467MB:

Fixed Issues

  • Radeon FreeSync™ may intermittently become locked while on desktop after performing task switching between extended and primary displays upon closing a game, causing poor performance or stuttering.
  • Anno 1800™ may crash upon launching this game when running DirectX®12.
  • AMD cleanup utility may clean up chipset/RAID installer related folders/registries from the system.
  • Some Radeon Graphics products may experience lower than expected performance in Destiny 2™ when compared to previous Radeon Software versions.
  • Upon joining the AMD User Experience Program, the AMD User Experience Program Master service may have higher than expected CPU utilization.
  • Enabling Ray Tracing while running Ring of Elysium™ on DirectX®12 may cause this game to crash.

Known Issues

  • Resident Evil Village™ may experience an intermittent application hang or TDR on AMD Radeon VII graphics products in the first mission of the game.
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.
  • Connecting two displays with large differences in resolution/refresh rates may cause flickering on Radeon RX Vega series graphics products.
  • An Oculus service error may be received on Radeon RX 5000 & 6000 series graphics products which prevents the Oculus Link setup software from running.
  • Radeon performance metrics and logging features may intermittently report extremely high and incorrect memory clock values.
  • If Ryzen Master is not detected in Adrenalin software after installation, a system restart may be required.
  • If Blue or Black screen is observed in mobile systems, temporarily disable Enhanced sign-in
  • A driver mismatch error may appear when two versions of Radeon software (Windows Store & AMD Support versions) are installed on your system. As a temporary workaround, launch the Windows Store version of Radeon software.
  • AMD is investigating an issue that may cause a small impact to battery life on AMD Ryzen 5000 notebooks.
  • A Blue or Black screen may be observed after updating to the latest Radeon Software. A workaround is to disable core isolation.
  • AMD is investigating a D3 error code that may be seen in some motherboard after updating to the latest Radeon Software.
  • Lower than expected performance may be observed on select AMD Athlon™ mobile systems.

AMD Link for Windows Known Issues

  • Intermittent grey frame corruption might be observed when streaming with HEVC on certain configurations via an Internet connection. A workaround is to use the AVC encoding setting instead.

According to sources in Spain, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is working on an ambitious plan to bring Cristiano Ronaldo alongside Lionel Messi at Camp Nou. The 36-year-old Portuguese has one year left on his Juventus deal and has been heavily linked with a summer departure away from the Turin giants.

Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs said to be interested in signing him. Meanwhile, Barcelona are also said to be keeping a close eye on the proceedings. The thought of former El Clasico rivals Ronaldo and Messi playing together on the same squad has piqued football fans’ interest throughout the previous decade.

There is no offer more appealing to Laporta than the chance to play with Messi. The Barcelona president is willing to tirelessly work to bring Ronaldo to the club. According to Diario AS, Laporta could offer a number of Barcelona players to Juventus in order to complete the trade.

Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, and Sergi Roberto are the three players in contention, with Barcelona willing to sell two of them to complete the deal. However, the source acknowledges that there is no assurance that Cristiano Ronaldo will agree to join Barcelona. His representative, Jorge Mendes, has not been formally approached yet.

Despite this, Barcelona believes they will be able to pay the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s salaries because two players will leave to join Juventus. Bringing Ronaldo and Messi together is conditional on the latter agreeing to a new contract with the Catalan club.

The Argentine, who has six Ballon d’ors to his name, has just a few days left on his contract, which runs out on June 30. However, according to a report from Spain, excellent progress has been made in renewal negotiations, with Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, in Barcelona to sanction the new contract.

According to reports, Messi has received contract offers from other clubs providing three times the income of Barcelona, but he is adamant about staying put because of his bond with the club.

Laporta has a close relationship with Messi and was elected president of Barcelona in March with the goal of persuading him to sign a new contract extension. The Spaniard has also been charged with dealing with the club’s severe 1.28-billion-euro debt, with the club agreeing to refinance 525 million euros of this figure on Sunday.

According to sources, Frank McCourt, a billionaire real estate mogul and former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has decided to invest $100 million to rebuild the foundations of social media. The term he used for this foundation is Project Liberty, and it centers on the construction of a publicly accessible database of people’s social connections, allowing users to move records of their relationships between social media services instead of being locked into a few dominant apps. 

“I never thought I would be questioning the security of our underlying systems, namely democracy and capitalism. We live under constant surveillance, and what’s happening with this massive accumulation of wealth and power in the hands of a few, that’s incredibly destabilizing. It threatens capitalism because capitalism needs to have some form of fairness in it to survive.”

However, he is not the only one to come up with such a fear, many are trying to reform social media by passing new laws or regulations, waiting for the next generation of startups to disrupt the incumbents. Some are even pressuring Facebook to look inward and revise its business model. Twitter Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey states that the solution to this problem may be blockchain, the technology underpinning bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies. 

Blockchain is used by Project Liberty, to construct a new internet infrastructure called the Decentralized Social Networking Protocol. We already know that Facebook owns the data about the social connections between its users, which gives the company an advantage over its competitors. However, if the data was made accessible to the public then the companies would have to compete by offering better services, and the chance of any single company becoming so dominant would plummet. 

The DSNP will be built by Braxton Woodham, the co-founder of the meal delivery service Sun Basket and former chief technology officer of Fandango, the movie ticket website. According to sources, McCourt hired Woodham to build the protocol and pledged to put $75 million into an institute at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and Sciences Po in Paris. They will be researching the technology for future implementation.

This is McCourt’s third attempt to fix social media, after previously investing in tech companies he thought would help transform the way people interact online. He was convinced that if the entrepreneurs are supported by academic thinkers then they will be able to better explore the industry’s biggest ethical questions.
