NVIDIA’s new UI update for its Shield devices takes inspiration from Google TV OS

Finally, Nvidia has decided to make some worthwhile changes to the crappy user interface of its Nvidia Shield devices. The company announced that it will be getting a revamped user interface, and it will be similar to the other Android TV devices.

According to official sources, one of the biggest changes is a new Discover tab, which features content recommendations grouped by genre. Nvidia has tweaked the “All Apps” screen which will now be called “Apps” and uses a full-screen layout that Nvidia says shows more apps at once.

Nvidia seems to have drawn inspiration from the Google TV software on last year’s Chromecast. However, it’s worth noting that the new UI update will not be specifically similar to Google’s OS, but, there are some obvious similarities. We will see that the large circular app icons on the left side of the display have now disappeared, and Nvidia’s screenshot also shows a large promotion for Disney’s Loki at the top of the Home screen.

According to reports, Nvidia started testing out its changes to the UI back in April, and it was witnessed by a screenshot of the new design which briefly appeared in the Play Store listing for the Nvidia Games app.

The company has officially started to roll out the update starting yesterday, with the rollout expected to take around a week in total. Customers in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, and Australia will get the new UI and Discover tab, while those in Italy and Spain will only get the new UI.

Android might soon get its version of Apple’s ‘Find My’ service

As we all know, Apple has a unique software ecosystem that allows the company to develop a massive crowdsourced network of devices called ‘Find My’. It helps to locate lost or missing items.

As the Cupertino giant has already demonstrated with its AirTags, Apple’s ‘Find My’ network can easily locate the tracker while also giving an additional Precision Finding feature to the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 series. It is all made possible due to the presence of Ultra Wideband chips in smartphones.

However, it seems that Apple’s rival Google is now aiming to produce something similar to Apple’s ‘Find My’.

XDA found that in version 21.24.13 of Google Play Services, a string of code was added. It clearly shows that Google intends on working on a tracking feature that could be similar to Apple’s.

<string name=”mdm_find_device_network_description”>Allows your phone to help locate your and other people’s devices.</string>

<string name=”mdm_find_device_network_title”>Find My Device network</string>

The ‘Find My Device network’ string reveals that a dedicated app could be used to locate your missing item in Google devices. So we can safely assume that such a feature might be added in the future, but it is not clear when Google plans on implementing this. Since we already know that Google will be officially unveiling its Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, we can estimate that the service will be announced simultaneously.

the company has also announced that both these upcoming devices will have Ultra Wideband support, so there is a strong possibility that Google could proceed to incorporate additional features to make finding these smartphones and other handsets easier. For more information stay tuned.

Swiggy and ANRA Technologies come together to launch drone delivery trials in India

The online marketplace has seen massive growth in the last decade in India. Not just e-commerce platforms but online food delivery portals have also gained huge popularity amongst consumers. Swiggy is one such online food delivery brand in the country which has been introducing new services to improve the doorstep delivery experience.

In the latest, the company is apparently gearing up for India’s first drone food delivery service. The food delivery company has teamed up with ANRA Technologies to initiate the food delivery via drone in the country. A new report from Gadget360 suggests that the brand has got necessary certifications and clearances from the government.

Swiggy has announced that the Ministry of Defense (MoD), aviation regulator Directorate General of Aviation (DGCA) and Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) have given final clearance to its drone delivery partner ANRA Technologies to start testing drones to deliver food.

Additionally, a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operation clearance has been given to ANRA technologies using which the drone delivery tests are being conducted across the states. With the BVLOS certification in hand, the ANRA team is said to begin with the delivery trials in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah and Punjab’s Rupnagar districts. The company will be testing drone deliveries of both medical as well as food packages.

“We are excited about the potential that Drones offer and look forward to the trials on BVLOS operations for the use case of food delivery. Through our association with ANRA, we aim to put the long-range proficiencies of drone technology to best use and accomplish some ground-breaking trials,” Shilpa Gnaneshwar, principal program manager, Swiggy, said.

ANRA launched its first sortie on June 16 and displayed how medium-sized drones can pick up and delivery food packages. Recently, delivery app Dunzo’s drone partner Skye AirMobility got clearances for drone delivery of medicines in Telangana.

Currently, there is no specific timeline as to when this project will go live on a larger scale. However, with all the necessary clearances and trial runs, the company might soon begin doorstep drone food delivery in India. We are waiting for this advanced delivery option to become a reality in India. If everything goes smoothly, we can expect other online delivery giants to route this approach going forward.

EA Sports introduces Time-Limited FUT Preview Packs during Festival Of Futball promo in FIFA 21: Here’s all you need to know

0

Many a time, the pack opening in FIFA 21 is compared to gambling as some players spend hundreds of coins to open packs in order to get the best players in-game. This resembles gambling to some extent, but EA Sports has always denied the fact. However, a doubt always remained in people’s mind.

Now, EA Sports has come up with an excellent idea. They have introduced Time-Limited FUT Preview Packs. They will be available in the FUT store during the Festival Of Futball promo.

The Time-Limited FUT Preview Packs will give you an option to look at all the players or consumables you’ll be getting from the pack even before buying with FIFA coins or FUT coins. That will be great as it will reduce the spending of unnecessary coins for opening packs.

EA Sports wrote in their official pitch note: “Starting June 18 at 16:00 UTC (09:00 PT) and running for the remainder of the Festival of FUTball, we’re introducing a new way for you to access Ultimate Team content; Preview Packs. These packs will allow you to see all the specific Items contained within them before you need to make a decision on whether you want to buy the pack with FUT Coins or FIFA Points. Preview Packs will be the only pack type available in the FUT Store during this time, at the end of the campaign other pack types will return.”

In simple words, you will have the option to look at the players and consumables present in the pack even before buying it. So, if you like the contents of the pack you can buy it or else return back. The Time-Limited FUT Preview Packs will have a timer, so if you decide not to buy it after previewing, you will have to wait till the refresh on the next day to preview the pack type once again.

In my opinion, this is an excellent addition to FUT packs. This eliminates the use of excessive FIFA coins and points to open packs. The Time-Limited FUT Preview Packs will definitely make the FIFA 21 experience more interesting.

Here’s the latest update about Google’s upcoming Wear OS 3.0

During last month’s I/O developer conference, Google announced that it had partnered with a South Korean giant to develop a “unified platform” that combined “the best of Wear OS and Tizen.” This will be the biggest upgrade in years for Google’s Wear OS.

The operating system will be internally called Wear OS 3.0, and Google announced that the update would bring a new design, new health and fitness features, new apps, and a lot more to the platform. Earlier, we reported that Fitbit, which is owned by Google, will adapt to the new platform it will be developing.

Even Samsung will be building smartwatches that will sport the newly updated platform; however, though we know that Samsung and Fitbit, who now collaborate, will be improved upon the new platform. But, there is still a doubt as to which route other brands will take.

For now, we only know that Fossil has announced that its smartwatches will not be receiving the updated software. Other brands are yet to comment on the fact of providing the new update for their smartwatches. Qualcomm also confirmed that the Snapdragon Wear 3100 and Snapdragon Wear 4100/4100+ platforms are “capable” of supporting Wear OS 3.0.

“We are working with Google on bringing Wear OS 3.0 to Snapdragon Wear 4100+ and 4100 platforms. Snapdragon Wear 3100, 4100+ and 4100 platforms are capable of supporting Wear OS 3.0, but we are not discussing any specifics at this time.”

For now, we still have no idea as to when the new update will arrive for Smartwatches. Google is yet to confirm whether its new Wear OS update will roll out to existing smartwatches. It only stated that it “will have more updates to share on timelines once the new version launches later this year.”

Mobvoi, which is Google’s OEM partner earlier reported that the company’s TicWatch Pro 3 GPS will receive an update to Wear OS 3.0. “Mobvoi is a close partner of Google and has even received investment from them, but there hasn’t been any official confirmation on any update timings from Google as of yet.”

Google however has its own set of comments for its operating system and the OEM’s decision to adapt to it.

“User experience is a top priority for us. We have not confirmed eligibility or timeline on whether any Wear OS smartwatch will update to the new unified platform. There are many technical requirements to run the unified platform that ensures all components of the user experience are optimized.”
