Xiaomi teases RedmiBook laptop in India

Post-Redmi’s online launch event in India today where the brand released the latest smartphone, the Note 10T 5G we also got an unexpected teaser for the upcoming RedmiBook series of laptops in India.

At the outset of the live stream, the Chinese smartphone maker teased the arrival of various products such as smartphones, power banks, Redmi audio, fitness products, upcoming smart TV’s, and just before the end, an incomplete “RedmiBoo” popped up which clearly hints at the brand’s own lineup of notebooks.

The RedmiBook is a rather suspenseful laptop as there is really nothing known about the specs it will carry. This teaser may not really mean anything at all, we cannot be sure until we witness an official release or further leaks about the RedmiBook.

It does make sense that Redmi is foraying into the Laptop sector as the demands for notebooks have risen due to the increase in work-from-home culture due to the pandemic. If Redmi truly is entering the segment and sticks to its philosophy of low prices, then they stand to gain a good market share.

Xiaomi had previously launched their Mi Notebook 14 laptops in India that saw strong sales at that particular price point, this could be another reason as to why Redmi is launching the RedmiBook series as well.

The new RedmiBooks arriving in India are rebranded Mi Notebook Pro and the Mi Notebook Ultra 15 that have launched in China.

Indian scientists develop the world’s hardest material with self-healing material that could revolutionize future phones

Recently a group of Indian scientists at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has developed the world’s hardest known substance which also holds the capability to self-heal.

1626647718 page 1 Indian scientists develop the world's hardest material with self-healing material that could revolutionize future phones

As per a TeleGraph India report, the Bengal scientists collaborated to synthesize an organic crystalline material that has a unique internal molecular structure, it is capable of repairing itself when damaged. To demonstrate this self-healing capability, the scientists used a trigger that was mild enough to make cracks in on this material. After they made the cracks, the material began to automatically reverse the damage inflicted within a fraction of a second after the needle pressure was withdrawn.

Self-healing materials are not totally new to us, they have been around for a while in different forms as such, but they are usually soft and amorphous in nature. They usually feature an internal structure that is marked by irregularities and defects. Apart from this, they require external agents such as heat, light, or other chemical products to heal. C.M. Reddy, a chemical science professor at the ISSER who led this research claimed that their self-healing material is 10 times harder than the others known to us.

He explained that it has a crystalline structure, a well-ordered internal structure, and is a favored structure in the majority of electronics and optical applications. The material has so much potential and practical uses in consumer electronic products as well. This could be implemented in phones and would greatly be beneficial. Just imagine, not having to worry about dropping your phone! There is nothing as painful as a cracked screen on your phone and hopefully, this material brings an end to that problem.

TikTok May Return to India as ‘TickTock’, ByteDance Trademark Application Hints

TikTok may make a comeback in India soon as its parent company ByteDance has filed a trademark for the short-form video app with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. It was among the 59 Chinese apps that the government banned in June last year. Shortly after the ban, the TikTok app was pulled from app stores and became inaccessible on Indian networks. Platforms including Facebook’s Instagram, however, integrated a similar experience that was originally available on TikTok to fill its gap for Indian users.

As per the latest report, TikTok’s parent company ByteDace has filed a trademark for the short-form video app with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. The report states that the trademark application for TikTok has been filed with the title “TickTock” dated July 6.

The application was first reported by tipster Mukul Sharma on Twitter. The trademark application has been filed under the Class 42 of the Fourth Schedule to Trade Mark Rules, 2002 meant for “scientific and technological services and research and design relating thereto; industrial analysis and research services; design and development of computer hardware and software.”

Parent company ByteDance hasn’t revealed any detail on the relaunch of TikTok as of yet. Several reports and rumours circulating on the internet suggests that the company is in early talks with the government of India. ByteDance recently also assured to work to comply with the new IT rules.

According to media reports, ByteDance has been in talks with the government on bringing TikTok back to the country. The Chinese company also assured officials that it would work to comply with the new IT rules.

ByteDance in 2019 appointed its chief nodal and grievance officer in India. It is one of the key requirements of the IT rules for ‘significant’ social media intermediaries that have over 50 lakh users in the country.

However, despite having the nodal and grievance officer in place, ByteDance-owned TikTok faced the nationwide ban last year for threatening the country’s “sovereignty and integrity” amid border tensions with China.

Among the hundreds of banned Chinese apps, PUBG Mobile is the only one that has relaunched in the country with a new identity. Besides TikTok, another banned Chinese app is coming to India, Shein online shopping platform. Unfortunately, Shein will not relaunch as a separate app but just as a platform within the Amazon website during the Prime Day sale 2021, which begins on July 26 for everyone and on July 25 for Prime members.

India vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI: India beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets

Deepak Chahar, India’s bowler, batted brilliantly under pressure to lead India to a three-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday. Suryakumar Yadav was the other hero, contributing 53 runs to India’s 2-0 victory in the three-match series.

Deepak Chahar (69) hit a blistering fifty and put together an unbeaten 84-run stand with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19) to help India win the second ODI after the visitors were reduced to 193/7. In their pursuit, India was down and almost out, but Deepak Chahar ensured India’s victory in the final over.

“It was hot there, we did well there. Got two wickets. We managed to stop them at 270. It was a decent score to chase on this wicket. Only one thing that was going on in my mind: this is the kind of innings I’ve been dreaming of. No better way to win the match for the country. Rahul sir told me to play all the balls,” Deepak Chahar said after the match.

India got off to a flying start in pursuit of 276 runs, but were quickly put on the back foot when opener Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan both fell in quick succession, reducing the visitors to 39/2. Shikhar Dhawan and Manish Pandey put on a 26-run stand in the 12th over, but Wanindu Hasaranga trapped the opener in front of the stumps.

India got off to a flying start in pursuit of 276 runs, but were quickly put on the back foot when opener Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan both fell in quick succession, reducing the visitors to 39/2.

India were in trouble after losing Hardik and Krunal Pandya before Deepak Chahar saved the visitors’ innings. Chahar, along with vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar, smashed a stunning fifty to help India get near to the mark. India won the series 2-0 with one match remaining, thanks to Chahar and Bhuvneshwar.

Sri Lanka were struggling at 194/6 before Asalanka’s brave fifty and Karunaratne’s late cameo propelled them past the 250-run mark. Deepak Chahar supported up Chahal and Bhuvneshwar by taking two wickets for India. Sri Lanka got off to a good start, scoring 59 runs in the opening ten overs. Sri Lanka got off to a good start with openers Minod Bhanuka (36) and Avishka Fernando (50). Yuzvendra Chahal’s double strikes in the 14th over, though, placed the hosts on the back foot.

Reports out of Italy linking Ronaldo with Man City switch

0

Sorting out Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract is the biggest decision that Juventus have to make this summer. And as per the last update on the situation, Jorge Mendes had asked the club for an extension despite rumours linking him with a move away.

Ronaldo currently earns €31 million per season at Juventus, and only a few clubs can match that sum, especially in the current financial climate. Manchester United and PSG were two clubs linked with a potential move for the player since they can afford his wages primarily.

However, according to Calciomercato, Manchester City have emerged as a potential destination for the player as well. The Sky Blues are no closer to signing Harry Kane and need a striker following the departure of Sergio Aguero at the end of the previous season. They are also one of the few clubs who can afford Ronaldo’s wages, but a move was always out of question due to his tenure with United.

But now, it seems like it could happen for the Portuguese international. Although, the same report says that his future is far from being sorted out. Ronaldo currently has a year left on his deal with Juventus and is more likely to stay and work with Max Allegri again. But if he decides to move on from Turin, then Pep Guardiola’s squad could be one of the places he ends up next, to the dismay of Manchester United fans who hold CR7 in high regard due to his time with them.

Tottenham and Sevilla working for Gil-Lamela swap deal

0

As reported by Fabrizio Romano originally, Tottenham and Sevilla are in advanced talks for a swap deal involving Erik Pamela and Bryan Gil switching clubs.

Sevilla will receive €25 million + add ons along with the Argentine winger, since they value Gil much higher than Lamela. The final agreement will be reached in the days to come, with the official announcement set to follow.

The announcement from Romano comes as a surprise since the general feeling was that Fiorentina and other Italian clubs were interested in signing Lamela. On the other hand, Sevilla had slapped a release clause worth over €50 million on their player to discourage big clubs from bidding for him, but it seems like they are set to lose him anyway.

Gil came through the Sevilla academy and spent the 20/21 season out on loan at Eibar. He is not the most prolific goalscorer, but has great ball progression skills and can bring the ball into the box, which is something Nuno will be keen on working with. His profile is similar to that of Jack Grealish, and at 20, he has a lot of time to develop.

The youngster has three Spain caps to his name, and given the fact that Fabio Paratici wants him, it is safe to say that he has a good potential to develop.

Lamela has been a part of the Spurs squad for 8 years, and with one year left on his current deal, it is a great decision by the London club to swap him for a talented youngster like Gil.

GPU prices are coming down however they remain un-affordable

The GPU prices in the market are as high as they could ever be, previously they were available as much as five their original MSRP. However, even though the prices have gradually subsided in recent times, the prices are still at least twice as high as the MSRP.

According to the GPU market pricing analysis of the 3DCenter, which released its results on the German pricing trends up to July 18th, we can say with the hope that the pricing of the GPUs is certainly coming to a stable level. However, the hope is not to rejoice. As we can see a minimal 3% average price drop for Nvidia’s RTX 30-series but on the other hand AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series pricing, has bounced slightly up an equivalent 3%.

We have seen NVIDIA’s RTX 30-series selling on average at three times their MSRP, but that price is still too high for comfort. But it seems that the situation is even worse for those wanting to buy AMD’s cards.

For the resellers and the second-hand market sellers, it’s a matter of attempting to maintain margins. German resellers have to balance their prices, for cards already in stock and bought at increased prices from distributors. These distributors have increased the prices of the cards because they too have to maintain their increased margins from the result of an unprecedented supply/demand ratio for graphics cards.

The business is extremely tricky and because of the margin maintenance at the very stage the final price that the consumer has to pay ends up being thrice or four times that of the MSRP. resellers increase their margins on cheaper GPUs they’ve recently acquired and reduce the pricing for the existing supply.

However, the second-hand market these days is quite worse. The only GPUs which are available comes from crypto mining farms. Due to the result of the government’s heavy crack on the crypto mining facilities, we can see that the crypto miners are having a hard time with their hardware.

The GPU prices are certainly coming down however, the selling prices are still extremely high. And due to cryptocurrency, the second-hand market is also out of options.
