Intel and Airtel join hands to accelerate 5G in India

0

Today, one of the biggest network providers in India, Bharti Airtel has announced a collaboration with Intel to drive network development of 4G and 5G virtualized radio access network (vRAN) and open radio access network (RAN) technology.

This will help transform Airtel’s networks to reap the full possibilities of 5G for its customers. Both the companies will be working together to evolve communications networks from fixed-function equipment to virtualized cloud-native deployments and enable edge-to-cloud communications.

“Being able to digitally power the vibrant population of India’s connected users requires scalable and agile networks that can evolve to address the growing demands of its users. Airtel is delivering their next-generation enhanced network with a breadth of Intel technology, including Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors and FlexRAN software to optimize RAN workloads with embedded intelligence, to scale their infrastructure and deliver on the promise of a connected India.”

— Dan Rodriguez, Intel corporate vice president, Network Platforms Group

This means Airtel’s network will be powered by a collection of Intel technology: the latest Xeon Scalable processors, FPGAs and eASICs, Ethernet 800 Series, and FlexRAN reference architecture. Intel says this will help Airtel serve the growing needs of its more than 345 million subscribers with a flexible, software-defined infrastructure.

Intel will provide Airtel with the foundation for wide-scale enhanced mobile broadband, mobile edge computing and network slicing.

“Airtel is delighted to have Intel as a part of its rapidly expanding partner ecosystem for 5G,” said Randeep Sekhon, Bharti Airtel CTO.

“Intel’s cutting-edge technologies and experience will contribute immensely to Airtel’s mission of serving India with world-class 5G services. We also look forward to working with Intel and home-grown companies to unlock India’s potential as a global 5G hub.”

This collaboration with Intel is a part of Airtel’s 5G roadmap for India, and also not forget, Airtel is the first telecom operator in India to demonstrate 5G over a live network and is conducting 5G trials in major cities.

Also, the companies being members of the O-RAN Alliance, both the companies will be working closely to develop a range of “Make in India” 5G solutions and enable world-class telecom infrastructure in India through local partners.

Intel’s Core i9-12900K appears in alleged benchmarks beating AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X

Intel’s latest upcoming flagship Core i9-12900K Alder Lake CPU has its latest benchmark results leaked out and it seems that the latest CPU will be several times faster than AMD’s Ryzen 5000 chips.

According to sources, Intel’s Core i9-12900K used in testing was allegedly a QS ‘Qualifaction Sample’ chip and hence, the performance presented in the testing may not be its final performance numbers. As we know that the Alder Lake lineup still needs certain firmware updates along with the OS-specific optimizations. Without this, it’s quite difficult to bring the full potential out of Alder Lake’s hybrid architecture.

First coming to the specifications, Intel’s Core i9-12900K is the flagship chip of the 12th Gen Alder Lake Desktop CPU lineup and will feature 8 Golden Cove cores and 8 Gracemont cores for a total of 16 cores (8+8) and 24 threads (16+8).

It also revealed that the P-cores (Golden Cove) will be operating at a maximum boost frequency of up to 5.3 GHz along with 1-2 active cores and 5.0 GHz with all-cores active. On the other hand, we have also heard that the E-cores (Gracemont) will be operating at 3.90 GHz across 1-4 cores and will be up to 3.7 GHz when all cores are loaded. The CPU will feature 30 MB of L3 cache and TDP values are maintained at 125W (PL1) and 228W (PL2).

Zoom CEO Eric Yuan said, “We are continuously looking for ways to enhance our platform, and the addition of Five9 is a natural fit that will deliver even more happiness and value to our customers.”

Yuan also mentioned that this deal will help Zoom adding more business clients to its customer base. Five9 will be acting “complementary” to its Zoom Phone cloud system. Five9 CEO Rowan Trollope will now be the president at the company reporting to Yuan. According to the deal, Five9 will now act as an operating unit of Zoom. As per 2020, Five9’s full-year revenue increased by up to 33% year over year to $435 million.

Zoom’s first big acquisition

Five9 is Zoom’s first billion-dollar acquisition. The aquisition comes at a time when Zoom looks to try to revive the skyrocketing growth it gained during the coronavirus pandemic.

Yuan spoke about about the deal between Zoom and Five9 in a separate blog post. He said, “The trend towards a hybrid workforce has accelerated over the last year, advancing contact centers’ shift to the cloud and increasing demand by customers for customized and personalized experiences.”

Zoom has seen a boom in business in the last one year. This is thanks to the shift in a work-from-home culture during the pandemic. The company’s stock price has tripled since the lockdowns started last year. This growth has taken a dip lately. Zoom’s revenue rose 326 percent in 2020. This went down to just a 191 percent growth to $956 million first quarter of 2021.

World data suggests TikTok is the most popular social app

  • Following data revealing the top eight apps downloaded over the pandemic, new research by comparethemarket.com shares the optimal times to post for engagement
  • Creating your own aesthetic, engaging with content on your feed and responding to comments are among some of the tips for going viral on Instagram and TikTok

TikTok may have the crown as the most downloaded social media app globally during the pandemic, but new research by comparethemarket.com reveals that Facebook is still Brits’ favourite platform – and that only one in 10 (11%) favour the video-led app.

Following data revealing the top eight downloaded apps over the pandemic, comparethemarket.com polled social media users to reveal their peak scrolling times.

The top eight most downloaded apps are as follows:

RankAppNo. of Global Downloads
1TikTok1,158,000,000
2WhatsApp845,500,000
3Facebook825,500,000
4Zoom764,500,000
5Instagram692,500,000
6Facebook Messenger603,000,000
7Snapchat361,000,000
8Google Meet313,000,000

comparethemarket.com data reveals that when it’s time for bed, 9pm onwards, users opt for TikTok and Snapchat, whereas after work, 4.30pm – 6.30pm, is when users are online on Instagram and Facebook.

Along with creating your own aesthetic, engaging with content on your feed and responding to comments, you’re most likely to boost your views and bring in likes and comments between 4.30pm – 6.30pm or 9pm onwards on TikTok, 4.30pm – 6.30pm on Instagram and Facebook, and 9pm onwards on Snapchat.

Breaking the results down by age, Brits aged 65+ might be more active on social media than expected, with over a quarter (27%) admitting to using Instagram every day, and TikTok a couple of days per week. It doesn’t stop there, as three in ten (29%) also use Snapchat a couple of days per week!

Commenting on the research, Holly Cox, head of digital at comparethemarket.com, says: “There were many moments throughout lockdown where we had no option but to communicate with our loved ones through our phones, so it comes as no surprise that messaging platforms and social media apps are the

most downloaded over the 2020-2021 period. Following this, and with flexible working set to stay, it’s important to use the right broadband service for video calls and relevant apps.

“With social media algorithms being a big topic of discussion in the digital world, it’s interesting to see when we are most active and when the optimum time to post on each channel is for engagement, ultimately revealing opportunities to increase views, likes, comments, and shares.”

PSG: Attempt to retain Mbappe commences with offloading players

Paris Saint Germain have opted to make a significant alteration in their squad planning strategy by deciding to give a shot at retaining Kylian Mbappe. Since their priority is to keep the Frenchman at the club beyond the summer, and in turn for a long term, they would attempt offloading players in order to compensate for the finances that would cost them if they manage to keep the blistering quick striker at the Parc Des Princes.

The club spent 1.25 billion euros on transfers between 2011 and 2020, but only 62.5 million euros last year and 76 million euros this summer. The new additions include top-drawer signings like Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Pochettino said about the recent transfers made by his side, “the new signings have a winning personality. They have won many titles, but not at PSG. They will do everything possible to lift trophies here too.”

Paris have recently renewed contracts of the important players in their squad, namely Neymar, Keylor Navas, Angel Di Maria, Juan Bernat, and Julian Draxler. Although they look to secure the same for Mbappe, they understand that the process is going to cost them a hefty amount. They have in mind to offer him a similar salary as Neymar. To achieve this without breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, they will have to get players on the market. The funds from those sales would help fetch what they aim.

PSG intends to cut ways with as many as nine players. The team’s three goalkeepers will be Donnarumma, Navas, and Sergio Rico, therefore Alphonse Areola is anticipated to leave, with the club valuing him at 15 million euros.

Pochettino’s right back options include Abdou Diallo, Thilo Kehrer, and Colin Dagba. The first two are worth 25 million euros each and could be sold this summer, while another defender, Mitchel Bakker, has already signed a seven-million-euro deal with Bayer Leverkusen.

PSG would demand 40 million euros for Mauro Icardi, while L’Equipe reports that Pablo Sarabia might leave for 22 million euros and Arnaud Kalimuendo could fetch 10 million euros.

Here are all the High-profile athletes who will miss the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

The Tokyo Olympics is finally here. It was already delayed by a year due to the pandemic. Amidst all of this, we somehow missed the fact that some of the biggest names in the history of the Olympics, won’t be present this time.

Some of the best Olympians have called time on their storied careers due to age, persistent injury, or to pursue other avenues in life. Here we look at the athletes we’ll miss the most at the Tokyo Olympics 2020!

Usain Bolt

The Jamaican poster boy for the Olympics will be the most prominent star to have hung up his spikes. Usain Bolt was the definition of the Olympic games. His last appearance was at the 2017 world championships where he picked up with a hamstring injury. Bolt has given the Olympics some huge, show-stopping performances.

Bolt’s world record times of 9.58 and 19.19 in the 2009 Berlin games are etched in history books. At the 2008 Olympic Games, Bolt achieved the feat of winning the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4 × 100-meter relays in a single Olympics. This was a first since American Carl Lewis in 1984 and he did so by setting world records (9.69 sec, 19.30 sec, and 37.10 sec, respectively) in all 3 events. Lately, we even saw him try out his luck in football with German giants Borussia Dortmund. When asked, he remarked, ‘I’m just doing many different things … the sports life is over.’ We might catch a glimpse of him as a guest at the Tokyo games though.

Michael Phelps

Phelps is to swimming what Roger Federer is to tennis or Tiger Woods to golf. One whose stature only grew with age. But in August 2016, sadly enough, the greatest swimmer of all time stepped away from the pool for good.

We all were mesmerized when at 31, Phelps won 5 gold medals and 1 silver in the 2016 Rio games. Phelps has won 28 medals throughout his career, out of which 23 are gold. He previously retired after the 2012 London games only to come back and retire in 2016. But this time it seems that the American is finally done. His legacy will be decorating the Hall of Fame now.

Bradley Wiggins

Bradley Wiggins is undoubtedly one of Great Britain’s all-time finest athletes. He announced to put an end to a stellar 16-year cycling career as a professional. In his vast career, he has won the Tour de France and a record 8 Olympic medals.

In his parting note, Wiggins addressed his supporters, “I have been lucky enough to live a dream and fulfill my childhood aspiration of making a living and a career out of the sport I fell in love with at the age of 12. ‘I’ve met my idols and ridden with and alongside the best for 20 years. I have worked with the world’s best coaches and managers who I will always be grateful for their support.” What a sportsman!

Nile Wilson

24-year-old Team GB star, Nile Wilson also decided to call an end to his sporting career earlier this year. Persistent and prolonged injuries have gotten the best of the Briton. We saw him last at the 2018 Commonwealth Games where he won gold in the all-around, horizontal bar and team event. He also clinched a silver in the rings and parallel bars. Although quite disturbingly he was struck by injury again. Similar to his 2017 injury, this one too made him realize the need to put an end to his bright sporting career for physical health.

Talking about his breakdown due to prolonged injuries to BBC he said, “I said I would stop gymnastics when I fell out of love with the process or my body does not let me do it anymore, and both are true today. I’ve had a rough journey with injuries since my neck surgery with my fusion in my spine and it has been complication after complication over the last two years. No matter how much I give, push and believe my body just goes “no, mate, we’re not doing this anymore” so it definitely feels the right time. I’ve made this decision and am content with it.” Wilson became the first Briton at Rio to claim an Olympic medal (bronze) on the horizontal bar. His career full of European, world, and Commonwealth honors comes to an end.

Eastern Europe’s Largest Developer Conference Infobip Shift ‘21 Celebrates Jubilee Year

Infobip Shift Conference set to welcome 3000 attendees over 7-8 September in Eastern Europe’s largest gathering of developers

London UK & Vodnjan, Croatia: 20th July 2021 – Global communications company, Infobip following its recent news announcing the strategic acquisition of Shift, today unveils plans for the newly rebranded Infobip Shift Conference.   Now in its tenth year, the developer conference will be held on September 7- 8, and is expected to welcome over 3,000 people in what the organisers believe will be the largest development event in Europe in 2021.

Infobip’s own DevDays conference attended by engineers within the company immediately precedes the Shift event blending the two occasions to create an almost week long technology festival.

During the two days of the Shift conference, 60 of the best speakers in the industry hailing from companies such as Microsoft, Google, Adobe and many others will play out across 5 stages, each dedicated to specific talk tracks.  Workshops will also take place, and the entire program will end with a Startup showcase.

In addition to the formal speaker program, a large outdoor space known as ‘The Garden’ is available for relaxed conversations, networking and business meetings.

Marin Tomičić, a longtime associate of Infobip’s Chief Developer Experience Officer Ivan Burazin, and project manager of the Infobip Shift conference says: “In a few short weeks, developers attending this conference are set to experience something truly spectacular.  From the venue itself which includes an outdoor space resembling what you’d expect from a summer festival to the quality of the conference program, I’m confident there will be something for everyone.  We’re incredibly lucky to be able to welcome some of the best speakers from the world of developers including David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of the Ruby on Rails framework and Val Head from Adobe. The event rounds off with an the afterparty for which we have arranged something truly unique.“

Following the decision to merge the Shift Conference with Infobip’s DevDays event – each previously held separately and in different locations (Spilt and Tuhelj, Croatia respectively) – this joint tech event will be held in a new location, in the city of Zadar on the Dalmatian the coast.  In years to follow, it’s likely the combined event will tour different parts of Croatia.

The tenth jubilee edition will not only be bigger than any Shift to date, but the whole visitor experience promises to deliver a quality experience whether you’re attending talks, taking part in workshops, networking with partners or engaging with startups.

Ivan Burazin, Chief Developer Experience Officer at Infobip concludes: “My vision since 2012 has been to create the largest global development conference, but also to strengthen Croatia’s connection with the world development scene. Over the years, we have grown and we are getting closer to our goal. With Infobip, we got what we lacked – the support of a large company for a domestic conference to provide global reach and become a leader.  With Infobip we got everything we needed to make Shift a world-class conference, and now the responsibility lies with Infobip’s young and motivated team led by Marin Tomičić, who has over the past 5 years proven he can meet the high expectations placed on him.”

The 10th year brought us something new and fresh – a full two days of sharing ideas, knowledge and have fun with colleagues from the developer world.

From an urban slum to playing in the Ugandan Women’s Rugby National team, World Rugby Unstoppable Samiyah Ayikoru is breaking barriers for young women

0

The three-time Uganda Sports Press Association Female Rugby Player of the years 2015, 2017 and 2019, is a force to be reckoned with

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, July 21, 2021/ — Fighting adversity and faced with extreme poverty in the Kampala urban slum of Nakawa, was no deterrent for Rugby Africa Unstoppable and international player Samiyah Ayikoru who used rugby to provide a better life and stand as a shining beam for young women in Uganda.

Twenty-two-year-old Samiyah is a confident, young woman, who despite what life had offered her, used it as a springboard to become a certified World Rugby level one coach for both rugby and touch rugby.

The three-time Uganda Sports Press Association Female Rugby Player of the years 2015, 2017 and 2019, is a force to be reckoned with.

Reflecting on her start in rugby Samiyah recalled tossing the oval ball, at the age of seven, mostly with boys, at the Kyadondo rugby grounds, where she found a safe place.

“I started my life on the frontline facing a life of poverty in which education, clothing and shelter were a luxury. On most days we would go hungry and as the child head of my household I had to fend for myself and siblings to earn a living. There was a lot of hard work and sacrifices made to survive slum life. Rugby became a safe space for me, and I began to dream of better and see a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Learning about keeping fit and healthy, while making friends, Samiyah remembers looking forward to the buttered bread and bananas they would receive which would ensure that she did not go to bed on an empty stomach.

Becoming hooked on the game, by the age of 16 she made her first national team appearance for the Lady Cranes 15’s and later for the Uganda 7s. Now as a Rugby Africa Unstoppable the petite player is making a way for other young women, who come from a similar background, to reach for their dreams.

“I appeal to all young girls and women especially in marginalized communities like the urban slum to use a sport like rugby to find a safe space and voice to deal with everyday challenges. The core values of integrity, discipline, respect, solidarity, and passion will guide you to make better life-long decisions.

Secondly, rugby opens many doors as there are many opportunities. As a player, coach, team manager, referee, or administrator, you can build confidence and self-esteem, while living a healthy and responsible life. It also allows you to make friends and new connections while travelling the world and becoming a role model to young girls.”

She added that rugby was a powerful tool to transform lives and as one of the 12 African females who represent as a Rugby Africa Unstoppable, she herself has gone through various life changing activities and gained invaluable experience.

“My hard work, commitment, determination and resilience has paid off over the years. I have become more confident and can address issues affecting young women including breast cancer awareness, gender-based violence and inspire young women with my story. Rugby is a sport for all sizes, and it has taught me to survive in all situations and to never give up in life.”

Besides being a multi award-winner, Samiyah has engaged in self-development courses in coaching, first aid and referee officiating to improve her knowledge, skills, and attitude as she prepares for life on and off the field.

“Despite my size l am recognized as a role model among my peers and young girls. Being a Rugby Africa ambassador for Uganda has been a great honour and privilege. I have been able to reach out to more girls and women in slum areas as well as rural areas, and teach them about rugby and its benefits to an individual and the community they live in.”

Rugby Women’s Advisory Committee President, Paula Lanco, said it was the likes of young women like Samiyah that spoke to the success of women in rugby.

“Samiyah is a beautiful story of how sports and in particular rugby elevated the life of a young woman in Africa. It has opened doors for her that she never imagined, and she has shown immense growth and capability to take a lead in women’s rugby.”

Women’s Rugby Manager at Rugby Africa Maha Zaoui said that Samiyah was the essence of what a Rugby Africa Unstoppable stood for.

“Samiyah has proven repeatedly that she has unstoppable qualities and is a trailblazer in Uganda women’s rugby. She comes with a compelling story that raises the profile and promotes diversity in the game.”

5 players to watch out for in Olympics 2020

0

Now that the Euros and Copa America are over, the spotlight is on the Olympics to bring the football fans their next fix of international football. Brazil, Argentina and Spain are among the favourites to win the gold medal in the competition, and here are five players who could lead their national teams to victory.

Diego Lainez

Lainez has struggled to make it into the Real Betis starting lineup, but heads into the Olympics as Mexico’s number 10. The responsibility will be on his shoulders to help his country and showcase his talents at the same time.

Andre-Pierre Gignac

Gignac has been called up to the France squad for the first time since 2016. He did not make the list ahead of France’s star-studded forwards at Euro 2020 but now has the chance to shine with the world watching.

Pedri

Pedri was named the Young Player of the Year during the Euros and continues to represent Spain, this time at the Olympics. He will no doubt be the one to watch alongside Pau Torres, Bryan Gil and Dani Olmo.

Take Kubo

Kubo endured a difficult start to his life as a Real Madrid player, but now has the perfect opportunity to showcase his talents. While Japan are not the favourites in the competition, he has the advantage of having no pressure to perform.

Dani Alves

The 38-year-old missed out on Brazil’s Copa America squad due to injury, but will now captain them in the Olympics. Alves is the most decorated player of the 21st century, and could add to his long list of prizes with a gold medal in Tokyo.
