Can FC Goa win the ISL in their own city?

The semi-finals of the 20/21 edition of the Hero ISL are scheduled to kick off this weekend, with the first leg of the two Maharashtra based clubs going at it. FC Goa face Mumbai City FC and will be fancying their chances going into the encounter.

It is well worth remembering that the contest is not that of getting it right over one leg, but maintaining good performances over the two legs. And that is where FC Goa will be hoping to beat Mumbai City. The tournament hosts will feature in the knockout stages for the sixth time, and for the fourth straight time which is a record-setting metric.

Moreover, Goa have gone their last 13 matches unbeaten, which is another record that the club has set in the ISL. They have only lost 3 games this season, of the 20 being played. And their past experience of the pressure of playing at the back end of the season should do them favours in terms of putting their best foot forward.

Igor Alboniga, who is second in the race for the Golden Boot with 13 goals from 19 games will be their most valuable asset heading into another knockout stage. Alberto Noguera, who holds the highest number of assists this season with 8 from 19 games will also be a vital player in the game against Mumbai, and potentially in the final too.

This could finally be FC Goa’s year if they manage to extend their unbeaten streak until the final. And what a wonderful gift it will be to the Goa fans, to win the tournament in their own city despite the pandemic situation.

Can Mumbai City win the ISL after finishing 1st in the group stage?

Mumbai City FC have been on a level of their own this season. They have scored the most number of goals, with 35 from 20 games played and have the second-best defensive record in the league, conceding only 18 which is less than a goal a game, and a very impressive stat considering the number of goals that they have actually shipped in the games where the defense has been having an off night.

While they have not beaten FC Goa this year, Mumbai City still head into the contest as the favourites to advance to the finals for many spectators. The first encounter between Mumbai and Goa saw the Gaurs win 1-0 while the second was a thrilling 3-3 draw.

But an important factor comes into play here, and that is the confidence that Mumbai head into the knockout stages, having won their match against ATK Mohun Bagan in their last group game of the season.

They have finished in 1st place in the group, and have qualified for the AFC Champions League and won the ISL winners shield ahead of ATK on goal difference, which only adds to their merit and confidence.

Hugo Boumous will be a crucial part of their offence, returning from a ban, and will be expected to dictate things from the heart of the park while Glenville Le Fondre and Bartholomew Ogbeche, the highest scorers for the club, will be expected to get the much-needed goals to advance to the finals and win the competition.

Pep Guardiola confirms Barcelona switch for Eric Garcia

Ever since the summer of 2020, Barcelona have been linked with a move for their former player Eric Garcia, who is currently a Manchester City player. There were rumours during the winter transfer window that Barcelona were willing to dish out a sum of around €10 million to get the player to help them through their centre-back injury crisis.

But with the Spaniard’s Guardiola Contract set to expire at the end of the season, he has reportedly agreed on all personal terms with Barcelona. This has been the case since the winter transfer window, and the free transfer is set to go through during the summer and has been confirmed by Pep Guardiola himself.

Pep Guardiola wants Eric Garcia and is confident that Barcelona cannot snatch him

“Eric Garcia is like a son. He was a guy last season that after lockdown was our best central defender. He never made a mistake and played in the quarter-final of the Champions League.

“He’s going to play in Barcelona and that is not an average player – he is a top player. He was not selected in the last two games and it broke my heart

Pep Guardiola wants Eric Garcia and is confident that Barcelona cannot snatch him

“That is why it is difficult for all the managers when you have a squad. You cannot imagine what it means.”

With the strong partnership formed between John Stones and Ruben Dias at City, it is very unlikely that Garcia will be able to get minutes, and the move to Barcelona is for the best since he will be an important player at the club whose academy he graduated from.

Former CSK spinner is now a bus driver in Australia

Former Chennai Super Kings and Sri Lankan off-spinner Suraj Randiv is now a bus driver in Australia.

Indian Premier League has made some of the unknown players a star. Many domestic players have got the chance to prosper in the national team. But the fate was not with the Sri Lankan.

Suraj Randiv played for CSK under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy in 2011 and 2013 and earned almost 75 Lakhs for his effort. Suraj has also represented Sri Lanka in 12 Tests, 31 ODI’s and 7 T20’s. He was also the part of Sri Lankan team in the 2011 ICC World Cup who was beaten in the final by India.

But at present, he works as a bus driver in Australia for a French company Trensdev which employs and operates buses in Melbourne.

Randiv was recently called as a net bowler to help the Australian team during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India a few months ago.

In an interview with 9 News, Randiv said, “I was asked by CA to come and bowl against their bowlers, and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity.”

However, Suraj Randiv is not the only player who is driving buses now in Australia. Besides him, there are two other international cricketers as well. Former Zimbabwe internationals Waddington Mwayenga and Chinthaka Namaste are also working as bus drivers for Trensdev.

Waddington Mwayenga and Chinthaka Namaste both made their debut against India in 2009. Chinthaka represented Zimbabwe in 5 T20Is, and Mwayenga had featured in a Test match and three ODIs.

These three players play for local cricket clubs but had to choose a different career path to earn their livelihood. It is very unfortunate to see the players like them in this scenario.

China’s spending on Research and Development hits a record high of 2.4% of GDP in 2020

China’s National Bureau of Statistics has released preliminary data about the nation’s spending on research and development. The spending hit a record high of 2.4% of the gross domestic product in 2020.

China’s spending on R&D has seen rapid growth during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020). 2020’s total expenditure on R&D rose 10.3% from 2019 to 2.44 trillion yuan ($377.8 billion), the bureau said in a release Sunday. Even with the record-high spending, this year’s growth is the slowest incremental growth in five years and down from 12.5% in 2019.

During the Five-Year Plan period of 2016-2020, spending on basic research achieved an overall growth rate of 16.9 percent, announced Minister of Science and Technology, Wang Zhigang. The R&D expenditure data released are subject to revisions, with the final tally of 2020 expected later this year.

According to a report by Xinhua news agency, the contribution rate of scientific and technological progress is projected to reach 60 percent in 2020, and the proportion of the scientifically literate Chinese population has surpassed 10 percent.

World Intellectual Property Organisation released the Global Innovation Index, in which China went from 29th in 2015 to 14th in 2020, Wang added.

National People’s Congress that kicks off this week will see China’s top leadership detail additional measures to support self-reliance in technology and innovation. Also at the annual gathering, the ruling Communist Party will announce economic and other policy targets for this year, the next five years, and through the year 2035.

Asia’s biggest economy is seeing a push for technology self-sufficiency as U.S. policies seek to contain its continued rise. China has pledged to accelerate the development of technologies critical to the next economic development stage, such as 5G technologies and semiconductor manufacturing.

AMD Ryzen Pro 5000 could be the salvation of AMD in the laptop segment

AMD has taken the performance crown from Intel in the desktop CPU segment, and it seems that AMD is getting serious about establishing itself in the laptop segment. The latest upcoming Ryzen Pro series AMD is its direct ticket into the laptop performance segment.

If we follow last year’s model, notebooks like HP EliteBooks and Lenovo ThinkPads that used the AMD Ryzen Pro 4000 CPUs like the octa-core AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U saw great success in the sales. According to sources, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s with AMD chip was one of the highest-rated business laptops of 2020.

Following the success of its processors in the market last year, AMD is planning to release the Ryzen Pro 5000 to give Intel a run for its money in the laptop CPU segment.

HP and Lenovo have already announced their 2021 EliteBooks and ThinkPads that will contain the Ryzen Pro 5000 CPUs, but the red team has still not announced the upcoming CPUs yet.

Both the AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U and the AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U have appeared through a benchmark leak. The latter’s specs can now be found in a newly released spec sheet for the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 2 AMD.

However, new sources have reported turbo-boost clock rates of 4.2 GHz for the Ryzen 5 and 4.4 GHz for the Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U. The new base-clock values are at 2.2 (R5) and 2 GHz (R7). The Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U will be a six-core chip (12 threads), while the Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U will have eight cores (16 threads).

It is expected that AMD will make the official announcement of its new Ryzen Pro 5000 CPUs in the coming months, as the Lenovo models containing them are expected to be unveiled in May.

Apple iPad Pro 2021 will be a beast powered by A14 Bionic

We have heard several reports of the amazing line-up of devices that Apple has prepared to be released this year. While many leakers and insiders have confirmed various news, but only a few were reliable.

Speaking of leaks and rumours, we have recently heard that the company will launch the iPad Pro 2021 this month. And the news seems to be a confirmed one, and now we finally have some news about its performance capabilities.

The new and upcoming Apple iPad Pro 2021 will be powered by the Apple A14 chipset, which powers its new iPhone 12 series. The chipset, made using the 5nm process. Earlier, the iPad’s were powered by the A12Z Bionic, but the new A14 chipset will greatly improve.

Reportedly, Mark Gurman has claimed that the new iPad Pro will exceed the expectations in terms of performance with the A14 chipset. The report suggests that the device will be as powerful as the M1-powered Apple Mac devices. That’s some huge claims, but it is expected from the A14 Bionic, which is currently the most powerful smartphone processor in the market.

Speaking of designs, reports suggest that the upcoming iPad Pro is expected to look similar to the current models. The device may be a bit thicker if the company opts to offer a Mini-LED display with improved brightness and better contrast ratios.

Of course, the upcoming model will also come with support for 5G connectivity with Sub-6GHz and mmWave networks. Along with this, we are also expecting better camera performance.

Apple iPad Pro 2021 is expected to go official this month, but so far, there’s no such confirmation or indication from the Cupertino-based giant.

Mumbai City has finished in 1st place in the ISL 2020-21 group, and have qualified for the AFC Champions League and won the ISL winners shield ahead of ATK on goal difference, which only adds to their merit and confidence.

Mumbai City FC is one of the eight clubs worldwide whose majority stakes are owned by City Football Group (CFG). English Premier League club, Manchester City is the flagship club owned by CFG.

HP Omen 15z with AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and RTX 3060 is the latest love of gamers

0

We already know that Nvidia has made its GeForce RTX 3060 available for laptops. As such, we all can expect the OEMs to release them with attractive features in the market. Unfortunately, we can only get 8GB of RAM along with cheap cut specs. Seriously, if you want to reduce the machines’ prices, then don’t sell them with cheap hardware that ruins the fun of having a powerful graphics processor.

According to sources, currently, HP is the only OEM on our radar that offers a much better deal on a GeForce RTX 3060 laptop. The HP Omen 15z with 16 GB of RAM will net a final price of $1150 without any major cut corners.

In the laptop, HP is offering AMD’s latest Zen 3 Ryzen 5 5600H CPU, 144 Hz IPS display, and even two 256 GB NVMe SSDs in RAID 0 configuration. HP claims that the Omen 15z chassis is the latest design from the company.

The full spec of the laptop is given below:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600H CPU
  • 15.6-inch 144 Hz IPS 1080p display, 300 nits
  • GeForce RTX 3060 GPU w/ 6 GB GDDR6 VRAM
  • 2x 256 GB PCIe NVMe SSD (2x M.2, upgradeable)
  • 16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM (2x SODIMM, upgradeable)
  • 3x USB-A, 1x USB-C, HDMI 2.1, RJ-45, mini-DisplayPort, 3.5 mm combo audio
  • 70.9 Wh battery
  • 14.09 x 9.44 x 0.91 inches
  • 5.43 lbs

Still, it would have been nice if many OEMs provide high specs with a powerful CPU and GPU at affordable prices without cutting corners. Though we don’t see that happening any time soon.
