Arsenal have appointed Freddie Ljungberg as the new interim head coach

Arsenal have sacked Unai Emery and have appointed Freddie Ljungberg as the new interim head coach.

Arsenal have sacked Unai Emery after a run of seven winless matches in all competitions. Arsenal’s shock 2-1 Europa League loss at home to Eintracht Frankfurt proved to be the final nail to the coffin, as the Arsenal hierarchy finally decided to sack Emery on Friday.

Arsenal have appointed club great Freddie Ljungberg as the new interim head coach. He will take charge of the team as they play Norwich City this weekend.

The club officials released a statement: “We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward. The search for a new head coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete.”

Freddie Ljungberg tweeted: “However long I oversee Arsenal for I will give everything I have to put smiles on faces again.
We have a busy few weeks ahead and the team needs your support. Let’s get to work!”

Ljungberg was a star performer for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal. He arrived in north London in 1998, joining from his boyhood club Halmstad for £3m. The Swedish midfielder wasted little time in making his mark on English football, scoring on debut against Manchester United in a 3-0 win for Arsenal.

He was an integral part of the Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ side that won the 2003/04 Premier League without losing a game. He played 30 of Arsenal’s 38 league games that season, starting 27 times.

Willock said: “Freddie is not only a legend, he’s an unbelievable manager and coach. He’s a mentor for me, he showed me a lot behind the scenes that people don’t really know about.
He’s improved my whole overall game. If I’m being specific, getting in the pockets when I’m playing No.10 and attacking at No.8. He showed me a lot of different tactics to get space and turn to attack other teams. Every day I’m working with him and I’m learning from him.”
The 20-year-old has scored 4 goals in 17 appearances for the senior side this season, such has been the impact of Ljungberg on Willock.

Saka earlier said: “Freddie’s information is vital for me because I play in the same position as him and he’s been a big part in my progress. He gives a lot of advice to me every day but the best piece of advice he’s given me is to stay humble.
He’s been with me since I was 15, seen me do amazing things but he always tells me to stay humble and to keep working hard because he really thinks I can be a top player.”

Maybe, Lujngberg is the one to take Arsenal forward. He has been a part of the “Invincibles” so he knows exactly what it takes to give Arsenal the old status back.

But there’s a problem. According to a report by the Mirror, the Swede may only be allowed to manage until the end of February before being forced to step down.
This is due to his lack of a Uefa Pro Licence, which is a requirement for anyone who wishes to manage a football club in the top tier of any European league system for more than 12 weeks.

Arsenal have sacked Unai Emery after a run of seven winless matches in all competitions. Unai Emery arrived from Paris Saint-Germain during the 2018-19 season as a replacement for Arsene Wegner. But sadly he was nowhere near the replacement that the Arsenal fans had hoped for.

In Emery’s first season, Arsenal finished fifth failing to qualify for the Champions League. In this season, he has left Arsenal languishing eighth in the Premier League, eight points adrift of the Champions League place.

The French pair of Zinedine Zidane and Kylian Mbappe have been in the highlights for quite some time now. Zinedine Zidane has publicly expressed his love and admiration for current PSG forward Zinedine Zidane.

Monaco President Vadim Vasilyev said that Mbappe dreams of a future move to Real Madrid. He told French outlet Telefoot: “Mbappe has told me of his desire to go to Real Madrid.”

Zidane told at the press when asked about the forward: “You know that I’ve known him for a long time. I’m already in love with him as a person first, because he came here a long time ago for a trial.
He’s the rival now, so I can’t say any more.”

PSG manager Thomas Tuchel said: “Sometimes the players you love the most are the ones you cannot have. But unfortunately for Zidane he is our player, although I’m sure he has a lot of players who he loves in his team.
I don’t know how much Zidane loves Mbappe but he is our most important player and we are very happy that he belongs to us.”

Zidane also said about Mbappe: “Like any good player, I would be happy to coach him. But it’s not the time to talk about that.”

Zidane does not want to discuss Mbappe in detail. But the people around the club all are hoping to see Mbappe in Real Madrid colours very soon. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said: “Zidane is French, so with Mbappe he could do something, no?”

Last night, during the Champions League group stage match at the Bernabeu, Zidane was standing on the touchline and Mbappe was on the pitch and suddenly the French pair tussled for the ball after Mbappe’s momentum took him off the pitch. It was Mbappe who got to the ball ahead of his compatriot before the two shared a handshake.

But the encounter has prompted a number of brilliant reactions on social media – with the still image genuinely looking like Zidane was trying to abduct the 19-year old.

It seems that the dream of the Bernabeu crowd will finally come true. The galactico status of Real Madrid will return with Hazard and Mbappe leading the line along with the others. Although, Mbappe is under contract until 2022 with PSG and his signature won’t come cheaply. But Real Madrid have all the means to see this move through.

Last night’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund wasn’t any different. It was a memorable 700th Barcelona outing for Messi.

Messi set up Luis Suarez for the 29th-minute opener. Suarez then returned the favour with a neat pass and Messi calmly converted past Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki in the 33rd minute. Dortmund defender Hummels, who gave the ball away for Messi’s goal, said post-game: “In top form, Messi is the best footballer I have ever seen – period.”

“We were not good enough to beat Barcelona today. We only created three or four real chances. It was not a bad game, but not a very good one. Barcelona were excellent though. Messi is always dangerous, of course.
We had a really bad spell after that first goal, with my bad pass that led to their second goal.”

Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre was also mesmerised by Messi’s performance. He told at a news conference: “He played as a false nine and was simply incredible. He waits really well for the ball and moves very well between the lines. And when he gets the ball, it gets pretty complicated.
You have to commit a foul in order to stop him. Otherwise, it’s very, very difficult. He is speeding up so fast, his dribbling is so good and then his final pass is also very dangerous.”

After this win, Barcelona will qualify for the Round of 16 as the group winners, while Dortmund are third but level on seven points with second-placed Inter.
Borussia Dortmund will now face Slavia Prague on 10th December, while Inter will host Barcelona at Milan on the same day.

Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix has won the Golden Boy award for the best under-21 player in Europe.

Former Benfica player Joao Felix has beaten Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho to win the 2019 Golden Boy award for the best under-21 player in Europe.

He broke into the Benfica team last season and his journey has been like a fairytale. The Portugal international has impressed with his athleticism, ability on the ball and strong finishing skills, earning comparisons with Brazil and Milan great Kaka.

After winning the Champions League, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp received a gift from Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti. The gift was a bottle of red wine along with a congratulatory message in relation to Liverpool bringing home number six.

Liverpool will face Napoli in the Champions League group stage tonight. Jurgen Klopp wrote in his column in the official matchday programme, as quoted by Liverpool: “Tonight is the third time we meet this season, although only the second in a competitive match. We played Napoli in Edinburgh pre-season and I think it’s fair to say they got the better of the game that day.”

“However, my positive memory of the occasion in Scotland was the incredibly classy gesture from Carlo. He bought a very lovely bottle of red wine and wrote a touching congratulations message on it, for what we had achieved the season before.
I was suitably embarrassed in the moment he gave it to me, to the point I was lost for words. People who know me well will tell you this is a very rare occurrence.”

“Carlo is one of the all-time greats. His achievements as a player, coach and manager would take up the entirety of this programme if I was to list them. And achieved in different countries. Wow – so hard to do.”

“I have a confession to make to Carlo and that is that I still haven’t drunk the wine. It takes pride of place at home. I’m sure one day I will, but for now the sentimental value of the gift means it remains unopened.”

“However, as has been proved since, Carlo’s generosity of friendship never extends to when our sides face each other as competitors. They really punished us in Edinburgh, although I know there were other factors that contributed to our performance that day and it was a friendly. And then back in September, they got the better of us in Italy in a superb football match.”

“I hate losing as much as anyone, but on that day I could not hate our performance. I thought we acquitted ourselves really well. It was the sort of performance that under most circumstances and against most teams would be good enough to win.
I have plenty of reference points when it comes to highlighting our opponent’s quality tonight. The games we played last season were probably the toughest I can remember, in Naples and Liverpool.”

“The matches are so intense, physically and mentally. It’s a battle for body and mind when we play them. But I think it’s important to realise they respect us also. The game we won here last season, by a single goal, I think we absolutely deserved to. The games we lost over there, we could easily have got more from.”

“So on the field, it is a mutual respect for two clubs who really deserve to be considered among the best in Europe. As well as Carlo, I welcome the Napoli players, staff, officials and supporters to Anfield. I hope other than the 90-plus minutes on the pitch they enjoy their visit to this very special city and region.”

Manchester City have become the most valuable football club

Manchester City owners have received an investment of $500m.

Manchester City have now become the world’s most valued football club, going ahead of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

Manchester City are owned by the City Football Group(CFG). CFG’s main owner is Abu Dhabi United Group. A Chinese consortium led by China Media Capital purchased around 12-13 %per cent in December 2015. They had 87% and 13% stakes in the business respectively.

The CFG have now sold another 10% stake of their ownership group at $500million to Silver Lake, a United States-based private equity firm. The other partners now have around 77% and 13% respectively.

The City Football Group (CFG) is now valued at £3.74bn. Other than Manchester City, CFG owns or has shares in MLS side New York City, A-League club Melbourne City, Girona in Spain, Uruguayan outfit Club Atletico Torque, J.League leaders Yokohama F. Marinos and China League Two team Sichuan Jiuniu.

CFG chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in a statement: “Silver Lake is a global leader in technology investing, and we are delighted by both the validation that their investment in CFG represents and the opportunities for further growth that their partnership brings.
We and Silver Lake share the strong belief in the opportunities being presented by the convergence of entertainment, sports and technology and the resulting ability for CFG to generate long-term growth and new revenue streams globally.”

ISL club Mumbai City to join the network of CFG

With this new investment, CFG are likely to increase their portfolio from seven clubs to eight. It is expected that Indian Super League team Mumbai City will join the network in due course. It will be a huge boost for Indian football.
