Rumour: TSMC to increase prices of its consumer’s electronics chips

The world is currently facing a semiconductor crisis with most of the manufacturers halting their productions due to a lack of chips available. As such global tech leaders have turned towards Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to ease this crisis.

And as such a new rumor has started developing that TSMC will increase its wafer prices. However, this is not the first time such a rumor has surfaced online, previously we heard the same price hike rumor back in January, in the wake of the ongoing chip crunch that automakers are currently facing.

Earlier when the previous rumor was making rounds, everyone believed that TSMC was aiming for another 15% price increase in response to the increased demand for automotive chips, but as the months passed no further details for the specific increase have come to light.

Today’s rumors, however, seem to apply to all tech products. As we know, TSMC manufactures semiconductors in two wafer sizes, namely the 12-inch and 9-inch wafers. The chips which are used in consumer electronics are manufactured on 12-inch silicon wafers, and the price of this wafer is rumored to increase.

According to sources, the rumor indicates that by the end of his year, TSMC will have increased its 12-inch wafer prices by $400 for a 25% year-over-year increase – resulting in record-high prices. currently, TSMC is majorly focused on the production of its 7nm process node, and will be increasing the production of its more advanced 5nm process node by the year-end and also the company is looking to bring its leading-edge 3nm process to mass production in the second half of 2022.

However, for the rumor floating around, for now, it’s just talks and nothing more. For further details, we have to wait for the TSMC officials to make any clarifications. In other news, the discounts that TSMC’s major customers negotiated for 2021 have been withdrawn owing to the uptick in chip demand. the automotive sector is desperate to get its hands on silicon for its products. As well as a shift in global work and entertainment patterns due to COVID-19 has increased the demand for consumer electronics such as smartphones and notebooks.

England FA considering Frank Lampard for U-21 job

0

Frank Lampard is one of the names being considered for the England U-21 coach when Aidy Boothroyd’s contract expires in the summer. The former Chelsea manager was relieved of his duties in early 2021, and has made no secret of wanting to manage a club again. Hence, whether or not he would want to manage an international team is yet to be ascertained.

As of now, England’s youngsters are having a tough time in the European Championship and will have to fight hard to qualify from their group, with losses to Portugal and Switzerland already weighing up factors against them.

Frank Lampard did a great job at Chelsea, bringing in young players through the academy of the likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Reece James, Billy Gilmour and Callum Hudson-Odoi, and his coaching staff including Jody Morris are highly admired by the England FA.

There are other candidates being considered for the post too, of course. Steve Cooper – who led the Under-17s to World Cup success in 2017 – is doing an outstanding job at Swansea, while Paul Simpson, who oversaw the Under-20s World Cup success, also has outstanding credentials.

QPR boss Mark Warburton was considered as FA Technical Director before Les Reed was appointed in 2018, and is also in the frame.

With the sort of talent coming into the young England squad, expectations will be high from anyone who takes over Boothroyd’s job and will have to deliver good performances at the very least.

MediaTek becomes worlds top smartphone SoC supplier

In the market of smartphones, the leading processor makers are Qualcomm and MediaTek. Of course, we still have other players like Apple, Samsung, and even Huawei in a certain aspect. However, it is undoubtedly a fact that Qualcomm leads the Android processor market.

But, the latest market analysis report released by Media states that MediaTek has managed to overtake Qualcomm and has now become the top smartphone SoC supplier of 2020.

According to the analysis report, the Taiwanese company shipped a total of 351.8 million units to major smartphone OEMs across the world in 2020. In 2019, the company sold over 239 million units, but 2020 marks a 47.8% increase over its previous year. MediaTek’s market share jumped 10% year-over-year, from 17.2% to 27.2%.

Due to the global pandemic and US-China trade war, Huawei was banned from accessing the American-based technology, this made the Chinese tech giant seek a new supplier for its handsets. This greatly benefitted MediaTek in 2020.

“MediaTek’s growth was in key price segments as the world was impacted by the pandemic in the first half of 2020 and the smartphone market recovered in the second half of the year. Low-end and mid/low-end devices were popular with buyers. MediaTek’s ability to compete presents an alternative to Qualcomm chips in this price segment, which helped the company grow.”

According to sources, in 2019 MediaTek only had 4.3% customer share, while Qualcomm recorded a 6.1% share. However, for the year 2020, Qualcomm’s share is substantially higher than MediaTek’s (9.8% versus 5.9%) but is due to Qualcomm’s more expensive high-end chips in the market. However, analysts estimate that in 2021, MediaTek will overtake Qualcomm with (8.2% versus 7.6%).

India also reports that Xiaomi sold more devices powered by MediaTek with 63.7 million units sold – a 223.3% increase over the 19.7 million sold in 2019. Oppo was second with 55.3 million units sold, Samsung was third with 43.3 million units sold.

NVIDIA brings NVIDIA Reflex Support for Rainbow Six Siege lowering System Latency by up to 30%

0

NVIDIA recently added Rainbow Six Siege to its arsenal of DLSS supported games and now they have announced that the game will officially support their NVIDIA Reflex technology with new drivers. This tech will help reduce system latencies on GeForce cards by a significant amount, which proves to be fatal in games like Rainbow Six Siege.

Here’s NVIDIA official words:

Today, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, the super-popular tactical shooter, got a patch that adds support for NVIDIA Reflex, a technology that reduces system latency for millions of GeForce gamers. By simply downloading and installing the new driver and the patch, GeForce gamers playing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege can enable NVIDIA Reflex to enjoy up to 30% lower system latency, making shots fire faster, making it easier to target enemies, and in general improving their overall competitiveness.

The driver will also have GeForce Gamers ready for NVIDIA DLSS in Outriders when that game launches on April 1, giving them the performance headroom to maximize image quality settings.

NVIDIA brings NVIDIA Reflex Support for ‘Rainbow Six: Siege’, lowering System Latency by up to 30%

If Your Rainbow Six: Siege Squad is Playing on GeForce RTX GPUs, They Just Got Better!

The addition of Reflex is essentially a free upgrade to a huge number of GeForce gamers. System latency (often referred to as “input lag”), is one of the key factors affecting the responsiveness of any kind of gameplay. And when playing esports, low system latency can increase competitiveness.

Being a fraction of a second late on the trigger is the difference between winning or losing the engagement, so reducing system latency can be a huge boon for Rainbow Six Siege players. With NVIDIA Reflex, system latency is significantly reduced, by as much as 30% in the Vulkan version of the game.

With the addition of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, 7 out of the 10 most popular shooters are now shipping with NVIDIA Reflex support.

In nearly all sports — golf, racing, football, etc — the right gear can help competitors achieve their full potential.  The same is true for esports — better GPUs, displays, and peripherals can help you respond more quickly and precisely to opponents.

NVIDIA Reflex provides a free upgrade to nearly all GeForce gamers by reducing latency and improving responsiveness for GTX 10 Series and higher GPUs for Vulkan games.  In fact, latency gains are typically higher for lower end hardware.

Kick up Your Graphics Settings in Outriders, Thanks to NVIDIA DLSS!

Outriders is a single-player and co-op action role-playing game that launches April 1st, but GeForce Gamers are Game Ready today.  By installing our new Game Ready Driver Outriders performance will be optimized, and the driver also supports NVIDIA DLSS in the game, which boosts performance significantly.

MLS clubs pursuing Daniel Sturridge

0

It’s been a year since Daniel Sturridge was last seen playing football professionally. He was released from Trabzonspor in March 2020 and was placed under a four-month ban due to breach of betting rules, for which he was also fined £150,000.

The former Liverpool man was one of the best strikers in the Premier League, finishing in second place for the Golden Boot award in 2013/14 behind teammate Luis Suarez who bagged the award ahead of his strike partner. However, the Englishman was plagued by injuries and could not get ahead of Roberto Firmino who arrived at the club following the arrival of Jürgen Klopp.

His time at Anfield was coming to an end when he was sent out on loan to West Brom in 2018, and then proceeded to join Trabzonspor thereafter. He is now being rumoured to be on the radar of MLS clubs DC United and Inter Miami.

Miami will be playing only their second professional season next year, and Sturridge joining them could see him reunite with former West Brom and England teammate Kieran Gibbs, who is set to join David Beckham’s MLS team at the end of the ongoing campaign.

DC United are the other team who are rumoured to be in the race for the former Liverpool striker and boast of having had Wayne Rooney play for them in recent years.

Considering that Sturridge is still 31 years old, he is waiting to hear from any other English clubs before sitting down to negotiate with clubs from the other side of the pond.
